flash and fire point Test

:AIM
Knowing the temperature at which the gases rising from the bitumen material ignite,
and knowing the temperature at which the bitumen can be heated safely, i.e. without
.the occurrence of a fire

:INTRODUCTION
This test gives the temperature at which or above it must take appropriate precautions
to get rid of fire hazards during its application so that the bitumen material does not
burn and does not become valid, and light vapors when mixed with air become
explosive, so the necessary preventive measures must be taken by determining the
.appropriate temperature

Note

The lowest ignition temperature for bitumen used in paving is 175°C

And the bitumen mixing temperature is 162 °C

The ignition temperature of bituminous materials is 200 °C

:APPARATUS
.A heating device to raise the temperature inside the pot -1

.Thermometer -2

.The Cleveland Open Vessel Apparatus was used -3

As shown in the drawing

:PROCEDURE
The bitumen is prepared to know the degree of its ignition and the degree of -1
.combustion

.The material is placed in the container designated for it -2

We start heating at a constant rate (heating was done at a rate of 15 degrees every -3
.minute)

.We pass a light flame over the volatile vapors -4

The temperature at which the vapors emanating from the container ignited is -5
.recorded, which is the ignition point

We continue heating until the entire surface ignites and we record this degree, -6
.which is the degree of combustion

:RESULTS
The temperature at which the flash appeared was 290°C

The combustion temperature is 315 °C

:DISCUSS THE RESULTS

At the beginning of the heating, the sample is coherent and no fumes come out of it,
and therefore it does not ignite. After a certain period, the fumes begin to volatilize,
and when the torch is passed over the surface of the sample, the gases ignite, and this
is the degree of combustion. = 315 m, and the degree of flash appearance = 290 m,
.which means that the sample conforms to the specifications

:CONCLUION
The temperature at which the flash appeared was 290°C

The combustion temperature is 315 °C
