STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The following statement of purpose is meant to put forth my ambition to pursue my

career through Masters in International Automotive Engineering at your esteemed university, as
well as description of my plans subsequent to my graduation. In this ever changing world of
Engineering and Technology, I want to attain the highest level of education and transcend new
scope for research in Automotive Engineering. This has always fascinated me and I am keen to
continue my academic pursuit in this field.

Exceptionally good academic performance in my school and college, active participation

in academic as well as extracurricular activities and work experience of 1.5 years in Toyota have
helped to develop strong quantitative and analytical abilities and good leadership and
communication skills. These have prepared me to handle complex problems and have given me
the confidence to pursue graduate studies.

I finished my schooling with First Class in 10 th Standard [ICSE Stream] and with
Distinction in 12th class. I studied Mechanical Engineering in Bangalore Institute of
Technology under VTU (Visveswaraiah Technological University), which is one of the best
colleges in the state that every undergraduate student has a dream to enroll into it. In such a
good college, I got 81.50% in aggregate, secured 2 nd Rank in Mechanical Engineering
Department in my college and was also placed among top 15 students in the University. In
my curriculum I have developed a very strong fundamental knowledge in subjects like Strength
of materials, Fluid mechanics and Turbo machines, Manufacturing Process, Finite element
methods, Control engineering, Operation research and so on. During my study I have nurtured a
growing interest in CAE due to its immense real life applications and wide scope of research.
Hence I presented a seminar on CAE [the use of computer systems to analyze CAD geometry].

During my engineering I worked on the project titled “APDL [Ansys Parametric

Design Language] Implementation of Transfer Matrix Analysis of Multi-Section Rotors” at
the R&D Centre, Mechanical department in our college. This project aims at using APDL
(Ansys Parametric Design Language) a scripting language to automate the tedious FEA (Finite
Element Analysis) & TMA (Transfer Matrix Analysis) theoretical procedures to determine the
critical speeds of multi section rotors.

I joined one of the most admiring automotive companies in India - Toyota Kirloskar
Motors Private Limited, India after completing my graduation and have been working there
since August – 2010. My main roles are handling procurement of Project and Export related
parts from Suppliers within India using the ordering Systems such as Electronic-Kanban [e-Kbn]
Global System, Plant Specific Management System [PSMS], New Parts Procurement System
[NPPM].The projects which I have handled are Corolla - Minor Model Change, Innova – Big
Minor Model Change, Innova Limited Edition – Crysta, Etios and Etios Liva Diesel Launch,
Running Change Localization Projects, Grade Rationalization and finally Camry Project.
Coming to Export Operation, I have handled regarding Off Tool Sample [OTS] parts and Off
Tool off Process [OTOP] parts Export to Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Apart from
these have looked into the Engineering Change Instructions [ECI’s] in Mass Production as well.
I am also a member of the Supplier Performance Tracking Team, by which we visit the
Suppliers for High Volume Production Trials [HVPT] and also implementing the TPS – Toyota
Production System at supplier end.

I believe that an opportunity for higher education would be a unique fortuity to test and
prove my ability and also to enrich and broaden my keen with transition to a new setting. Finally,
I would like to add here that my parents have always been a source of inspiration to me. They
have set me personal examples and ideals for me follow. As a result of this, I believe that over
the years, I have evolved into a person who can fit easily into a team and who appreciates the
value of discussion and exchanges of ideas. I am capable of independent work, given an
opportunity.

I would like to conclude with the reasons for my choosing to apply to your esteemed
university for my Master degree. I perceive that graduate study nurtures the seeds of learning
sown during the course of undergraduate study. After having gone through the details of the
facilities available at your university, I feel that they are very much catering to the fields of
interest and it is the right place to embark upon my academic career. I wish to aver that I will
make maximum use of all the opportunities bestowed upon me and shall pursue my goals with
whole hearted dedication and can live to the high standards set by the university. I sincerely hope
that my application for admission is favorably received.
