Activities
Complete the following activities:
This project requires you to lead a team by modelling high standards of conduct to
reflect the organisation’s standards and values. As part of the assessment, you will:
Vocational education and training is all about gaining and developing practical skills
that are industry relevant and that can help you to succeed in your chosen career.
For this reason, we are giving you the choice to base this project on your own
workplace, or you can use the case study provided. This will mean that you are
applying your knowledge and skills in a relevant, practical and meaningful way to
your own situation!
If you are using the case study, you will use the information provided in the
Simulation Pack and you may select any of the case study teams that form part of
the organisation on which to base your project. You must assume the role of
manager for your chosen team and the team must consist of at least two members
(excluding yourself).
To complete this assessment using a real workplace, you must be in a leadership
role and have responsibility for the work and performance of at least two workers. It
is important that you are able to access enough information for your chosen
workplace in order to be able to do your assessment. As a minimum this should
include workplace documentation (e.g., Strategic Plan) and policies and procedures
that relate to management performance (e.g., Code of Conduct, position
description).
You will need to communicate with a team as well as an individual team member,
when developing performance plans. Your communication may be either directly
with actual team members or fellow students/your assessor can play the roles of
relevant people/parties. Communication can be in any appropriate format (e.g., face
to face, video conference, email) as long as it meets the requirements outlined in
each activity step.
You will be collecting evidence for this unit in a Project Portfolio. The steps you
need to take are outlined below.
2. Preparation
Make sure you are familiar with the organisation you are basing this assessment on
and have read through the necessary background information. For the case study,
this is all of the documents included in the Simulation Pack. If it’s your own

workplace or a business where you are working, have your business or case study
approved by your assessor.
Complete Page 4 of your Project Portfolio for this unit.
Read through the requirements of Section 1, 2 and 3 of your Project Portfolio.
You must develop a performance plan for your team as well as a separate plan for
one member of the team. You will discuss these plans and establish KPIs during a
meeting with the team in the next activity step.
If you are basing the assessment on your own workplace, you will develop one plan
for your work team and you may select any team member to develop a plan for.
If you are using the case study, you will develop a plan for your chosen team, as
well a plan for any individual on that team.
Use the Team Performance Plan Template in Section 1 of your Project Portfolio to
do the following:
• List at least three team objectives (you may establish any three suitable
objectives that align with organisational objectives)
• List at least three outcomes for the team that are measurable

You will complete the last column of the Team Performance Plan Template after
your meeting in the next activity step.
Also select an individual member of the team to develop a Performance Plan for.
You may use workplace documents or research a suitable position description for
this individual’s role in order to establish goals and outcomes.
Use the Individual Performance Plan Template in Section 1 of your Project Portfolio
to do the following:
• List at least three goals this individual would have in relation to their role
• List at least three key responsibilities or tasks this individual will have as part of
their role.
Meet with your team to discuss the performance plans you developed and set KPIs.
After the team meeting you will have a breakout session of 10 minutes with the
individual team member that you developed a Performance Plan for. The team
meeting should last for 15 minutes and the breakout session for 10 minutes. You
may meet in-person or online, and you must attach evidence of your meeting and
breakout session to the end of Section 1 of your Project Portfolio.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you will meet with at least
two members of your work team.
If you are using the case study, you may meet with two fellow students playing the
roles of your team members. They may use their own suggestions/feedback to
contribute to the meeting.
You may make changes to the Performance Plan you developed, using team
member feedback.
At the meeting, you must:
• explain the team objectives and how they align with organisational objectives
• Ask the team to identify three organisational values they are working according
to
• facilitate agreement within the team to establish measurable KPIs for team
tasks. Use the last column of the Team Performance Plan to record the KPIs.
At the end of the team meeting, you must have a 10-minute breakout session with
the team member that you developed an individual performance plan for.
At this meeting, you must:
• explain their individual goals and how they align with team objectives
BSBLDR411 | Demonstrate leadership in the workplace | Student Assessment Tasks I V2.0 | Mar 22
Macquarie Education Group Australia Pty Ltd t/a MEGA Education | RTO Code 91305 | CRICOS Code 02657J 13
• ask the team member to identify three organisational values they are working
according to
• establish measurable KPIs for tasks. Use the last column of the Individual
Performance Plan to record the KPIs.
During the meeting and breakout session, you must comply with organisational
standards and values and communicate effectively, including:
Make sure you have answered all questions in Section 1. Submit to your assessor
for review.
You are also required to attach certain documents as part of your evidence –
review the documents you need to attach as outlined in Section 1 of the Project
Portfolio and make sure you attach these upon submission.
Assume that the team have been working according to the implemented
Performance Plans for some time. You must identify at least two
performance/behaviour issues caused by the team or a team member not working
according to organisational values. You may use the Internet to gather information
relevant to the issues and identify possible solutions.
If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you may identify the issues
by observing the team, listening to team/individual feedback or evaluating
performance against established KPIs.
If you are using the case study, you may assume the following:
The team has been effective overall, but collaboration within the team hasn’t been
as good as it could be and there is conflict between team members.
One team member is performing poorly due to a lack of time management skills.
Use Section 2 of your Project Portfolio to:
• Describe at least two issues and possible solutions for each issue

individual performance and evaluate whether the actions taken leads to the
resolution of the issues.
Meet with the team and/or the relevant individual team members to develop an
Action Plan for implementing decisions. You must consider what to communicate
with whom and this may mean that you will have more than one meeting. You will
need team/team member agreement on the course of action to be taken and
discuss the decisions, allowing their participation (e.g., asking for their suggestions
and feedback). Each meeting should be 10 minutes long and may take place in
person or online.
If you are using the case study, you will meet the same students as before, playing
the roles of your team members. They may use their own suggestions/feedback to
contribute to the meeting. Make sure that you are contributing your own unique
ideas as the assessor will be looking to see that original ideas and suggestions are
occurring from each student being assessed.
Complete the questions in Section 2 of your Project Portfolio and use the Action
Plan Template to record the details of the meeting.
At the meeting:
• Explain your decision and agree on the actions to be taken by the team or
team member
• State the expected outcomes and when the decision will be reviewed
During the meeting you must use effective communication skills including:
Make sure you have answered all questions in Section 2. Submit to your assessor
for review.
You are also required to attach certain documents as part of your evidence –
review the documents you need to attach as outlined in Section 2 of the Project
Portfolio and make sure you attach these upon submission.
You must meet with the relevant team/individuals to monitor the implementation
and impact of decisions. You must consider the context for the communication and
this may mean that you will have more than one meeting. The meeting must be
between 5 and 10 minutes and may take place in person or online.

If you are basing the assessment on a real workplace, you must ensure that the
relevant team/individuals have taken some action (according to the Action Plan that
was implemented) and that they will be able to provide you with feedback.
If you are using the case study, you may meet the same students as before,
playing the roles of your team members. They may use their own
suggestions/feedback to contribute to the meeting. You may assume the following:
The team watched online training on how to deal with conflict.
The individual team member has been using Google Calendar.
At the meeting/s discuss the actions that have been implemented (according to the
Action plan) and ask the team/individual to describe the impact of the decision on
their performance and their compliance to organisational values and standards.
Attach evidence of your meeting/s to Section 3 of your Project Portfolio.
9. Report to stakeholders
Use the feedback you receive to develop a report to stakeholders (if you are using
the case study, this will be your assessor) containing the following information:
Make sure you have completed all sections of your Project Portfolio, answered all
questions, provided enough detail as indicated and proofread for spelling and
