MODEL: M138, M139 (F1 only)

SUBJECT: Rubber Union from Power Unit to F1 Oil Tank – Campaign 161

The following Maserati vehicles are involved in a Service Campaign (#161) where the
flexible pipe union which connects the Power Unit to the F1 Gearbox Oil Tank must
be replaced (see Figure 1):

• M139 with Cambiocorsa gearbox from Assembly # 26538 up to and

including Assembly # 29010

• All M138 from Assembly # 26588 up to and including Assembly # 29044

(VIN 26588)

Figure 1

1
This component has a potential problem which may cause early deterioration and
possible minor oil leaks. This service campaign must be performed on the vehicles
involved when they come to the workshop for their next service.

This bulletin is outlined in the following sections:

A. Important Notes
B. Procedure for Flexible Pipe Union Replacement
C. List of Assembly and VIN of M139 – Campaign already performed
D. List of Assembly and VIN of M138 – Campaign already performed

A. IMPORTANT NOTES

• The vehicles listed in Section C and D (although they fall within the
above mentioned assembly numbers) are NOT involved in the campaign
since this procedure has already been performed at the factory.

• Carefully read this document in its entirety

• Refer to the Technical Documentation to correctly identify the parts and the
operating procedure referenced in this document

• Check on MODIS whether the vehicle is involved in this campaign (#161) and
that it has not already been updated

• Protect all exposed parts against possible damage

• The following parts are necessary to perform this campaign and must be
ordered:

Part Description Quantity Part Number

Low-pressure pipe 2
980139603
Clamps 6

Part Description Quantity Part Number

Clamp tightening pliers 1 900027460

The entire procedure necessary to complete can be found on the next page.

B. Procedure for Rubber Union Replacement

1. Raise vehicle on lift

NOTE: It is NOT necessary to release the

pressure from the hydraulic system
A
NOTE: It will be necessary to have a plug
ready to cap off the line to prevent
hydraulic fluid spillage.

2. Using a set of Vice Grips, or tongue-in-

groove pliers with teeth, pinch the
flexible rubber tube (See Arrow, Figure
Figure 2
1, Page 1) with moderate pressure.

3. After releasing, verify if there are any

longitudinal slits in the flexible tube
caused by the teeth in the pliers
(Reference A, Figure 2)

NOTE: For demonstrative purposes, an

example of using Vice Grips on the rubber
tube is illustrated in Figure 3. The amount
of deflection that is visible on the tube in
Figure 3 should indicate the amount of
pressure that is required.

Figure 3

4. If there are longitudinal silts in the

rubber pipe left by the teeth of the pliers B
making indentations (reference A,
Figure 2 as an example), then the pipe
must be replaced.

NOTE: If the pipe has no longitudinal slits

(as observed in Figure 2), then it is
compliant and must NOT be replaced. In
this case, the procedure has been
completed and Campaign 161 is fulfilled.

5. Detach the electrical connector of the C
hydraulic pump unit (B, Figure 4)

6. Using a screwdriver as shown, break

the fastening clamps (C, Figure 5)
which secures the flexible rubber pipe
union (D, Figure 5).

Figure 5

7. Using pliers, slightly bend the bracket of

the pipe fastening clamp so that the
bushing can be installed in order to
allow enough room to unscrew the nut
for the pipe fastening clamp shown in
Figure 6.

Figure 6

8. Position the bushing (E, Figure 7) on

the pipe fastening clamp nut and
unscrew it.

Figure 7

4
9. Using pliers or a screwdriver, break the
F
clamp (F, Figure 8).

Figure 8

10. Prepare a container to collect the oil

that will flow out, and then disconnect G
the hose. Cap off the flexible section of
the pipe to prevent any fluid leaks (G,
Figure 9)

Figure 9

11. Turn the rigid pipe in a manner to

remove the rubber union (See Figure
10).

Figure 10

5
12. Obtain the new rubber union and
prepare it by fitting the two clamps onto
the pipe. The locking areas must face
the same side (See Figure 11).

Figure 11

13. Fit the pipe onto the power unit. Make

sure to turn the rubber union in order
that the locking areas of the two clamps
are facing you (See Figure 12).

Figure 12

14. Remove the cap and connect the

flexible hose to the rigid section of the
pipe.

15. Using clamp tightening pliers, close the

fastening clamp (see Figure 13).

Figure 13

6
16. Using the pliers provided clamp (Part #
900027460) for the operation, crimp the
two fastening clamps on the replaced
pipe (See Figure 14)

Figure 14

17. Position the bushing (F, Figure 15) and

screw down the nut for the pipe
fastening clamp.

18. Fill up the oil in the electronically-

controlled gearbox oil tank

19. Draw the oil out of the tank using the

special tool (p/n 900027330), making
sure the remaining oil level is between F
the MIN and MAX indicators on the tool.

Figure 15

20. Reconnect the electric pump connector

21. Open the driver’s door and check that

the F1 pump activates.

22. Check the oil level again and top up if

necessary
