Instructions to add external battery packs

1. Connect a USB or serial cable between the UPS and the PC
Note 1: If the UPS supports both USB and serial communication connect only
one (1) communication cable between the PC and the UPS
Note 2: Stop the PowerAlert service if it is running
2. Open the zip file
3. Run the paebpu-12.6.64.xxxxx-win_x86.exe installation file
4. To launch the application, go to directory C:\Program Files (x86)\
TrippLite\PowerAlert External Battery Pack Utility and double click the
paebpu.exe file.
5. Choose ‘Download’ to load the battery pack file from Tripp Lite’s
website or use the bundled file located in the PowerAlert External
Battery Pack Utility directory.

6. Click ‘Next’.
7. The application will either attempt to download the battery pack list or
open a window to select the battery pack file locally:
8. Before proceeding, view the list of available battery packs. If the
battery pack is listed click the next button. If a battery pack is not listed,
either click the back button and select the option to download the
battery pack list from the Tripp Lite website or contact Tripp Lite’s
Technical Support department for assistance.

9. A discovery process to locate a supported UPS is started. If a supported

UPS system cannot be found the application will indicate such after
discovery is complete. Note: If a UPS that is supported cannot be found
please confirm the following:
 The communication cable is connected between the UPS and the
computer.
 If the connection is USB, verify that the UPS shows up in Windows
Device Manager as a battery class device.
 If PowerAlert software is installed that it has been stopped.
10. Click ‘Next’ after the discover process is complete and the UPS is
identified.
11. Select the quantity of battery and type of battery packs that is
connected to the UPS. The application allows for the possible
configuration of up to three (3) different types of battery packs and
their respective quantities attached to a single UPS

12. Click ‘Next’.

13. The application will update the UPS with the new battery pack
information and validates that the data that was written to the UPS was
correct.

14. Click ‘Done’ to close the application

15. Restart the PowerAlert service if necessary

To reset the UPS to no external battery packs

1. Connect a USB or serial cable between the UPS and the PC.
Note: If the UPS supports both USB and serial communication connect only
one (1) communication cable between the PC and the UPS.
2. Stop the PowerAlert service if it is running
3. Unzip the external battery pack tool setup program from the zip file
4. Run the paebpu-12.6.64.xxxxx-win_x86.exe installation file
5. To launch the application, go to directory C:\Program Files (x86)\
TrippLite\PowerAlert External Battery Pack Utility and double click the
paebpu.exe file.
6. Select to load the battery pack list from Tripp Lite’s website or use the
bundled list
7. Click ‘Next’
8. The application will either attempt to download the battery pack list or
open a window to select the included battery pack file.
9. Click ‘Next’ to initiate a discovery of an appropriate UPS. If none is
discovered the application will indicate such after discovery is complete
10. Click ‘Next’
11. Click ‘Use Internal Batteries Only’
12. Click ‘Next.
13. The application will update the UPS with the new battery pack
information
14. Click ‘Done’ to close the application
15. Restart the PowerAlert service if necessary

To uninstall the PowerAlert External Battery Pack Utility

1. Go to Control Panel-Add/Remove programs and select the PowerAlert
External Battery Utility and click ‘Remove’ or ‘Uninstall’.
