Mr. Ajay Tyagi has been working in XYZ Textile Market Surat for last 20 years. Mr. Gupta an
IIM graduate was recently appointed by the management under Mr. Tyagi. With the passage of time
Mr. Tyagi identified that Mr. Gupta always used to challenge decisions taken by Mr. Tyagi, stating
that “ I have a better plan than this”. Hence Mr. Tyagi was very angry on Mr. Gupta. On the other
hand Mr. Gupta identified that his suggestions and plans were better than Mr. Tyagi’s . Still Mr. Tyagi
was not accepting his ideas. This issue brought series conflicting episodes between Mr. Tyagi and Mr.
Gupta which ultimately lead to loss to the company. The management wants to resolve the issue as
soon as possible and asked you for valuable suggestions in the following questions:

a. What is the root cause of problem? How did you identify it?
b. Suggest on which stage of conflict the case has reached and which techniques you will
suggest to the management and why?

You have been appointed as Branch Manager in A 1 Chemicals Ltd. Nagpur. While joining
duty you observed that the Union Leader was behaving in a rude and arrogant manner. You also
observed that in lunch break, the Union leader and his 4 to 5 members used to smoke near the fuel
tank and even after completion of break time they do not resume their duty. With intensive research
you found that the union leader had very bad experiences with the management of the firm in the
past. Hence, he had developed negative attitude towards the management and its each and every
decision.

Answer the following questions:

a. How will you infuse positive attitude in the Union leader?


b. Which conflict resolution technique should be applied in this case?
