Pride and Prejudice (2005)

"Pride and Prejudice" is a romantic drama based on Jane Austen's classic novel.
Directed by Joe Wright, it stars Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew
Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy. The movie follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet, one of five
sisters in 19th-century England, as she navigates social expectations, family dynamics,
and her growing attraction to the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. The film captures the essence of
Austen's wit and social commentary while delivering a visually stunning and emotionally
engaging portrayal of the timeless love story.

The main characters of the story are Elizabeth Bennet, the main character and
an intelligent young woman from the Bennet family, Fitzwilliam Darcy, a wealthy and
aloof aristocrat, Jane Bennet, Elizabeth’s beautiful older sister, Mr. Bennet, Elizabeth’s
witty father, Mrs. Bennet, Elizabeth’s marriage obsessed mother, Mr. Bingley, Mr.
Darcy’s close friend and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr. Darcy’s aunt.

In my opinion, the movie can be better understood using the psychological

criticism approach. This is because each character’s psychology is much deeper than
what most might see. For example, is Darcy’s character or personality might first seem
strict but we only get to know a gist of the reason behind his personality later on the
movie. Some might also confuse Elizabeth’s decision at the end of the movie as to why
she lied to Lady Catherine regarding marrying Darcy.
