INTRODUCTION

Overview
 Provide a background about your research problem in a clear and concise manner. Include
statements that will highlight why is there a need to examine your research topic. Briefly state
the significance of pursuing your research study.

Review of Related Literature

 Search for related studies that can enrich your discussions. Highlight the “blindspots” in the
research field. You may also include conflicting findings of different research studies. Include a
brief synthesis at the latter portion of this section.

Statement of the Problem

 This section will include the research questions that you attempt to answer. Please check
Creswell and Creswell’s book to see how you should formulate your SOP.

METHOD

Overview
 Include a brief statement containing the contents of this portion/chapter.

Design
 Describe thoroughly the research approach (qualitative) that you will use. Describe what is
qualitative approach. Put a statement why qualitative approach is appropriate in answering your
statement of the problem.
Example: The present study will utilize a qualitative approach. Qualitative studies are (insert
details about qualitative approach). Qualitative approach is appropriate for this study because
(insert statements that will justify as to why your chosen approach is appropriate).
 Describe thoroughly the research design that you will use. Describe your chosen research design
(phenomenology/narrative/case study etc.) Put a statement why your chosen research design is
appropriate in answering your statement of the problem.
Example: The present study will utilize a qualitative approach. Qualitative studies are (insert
details about qualitative approach). Qualitative approach is appropriate for this study because
(insert statements that will justify as to why your chosen approach is appropriate).

Participants
 Describe your sampling technique and justify why the chosen sampling technique is appropriate
to your study. Describe who will be the respondents in your research study. Be detailed as much
as possible. Specify well the inclusion criteria for respondent selection. Include also the target
number of respondents.

Instruments
 For qualitative studies, researchers typically use a personal data sheet and semi-structured
interview guide. Briefly describe your instruments and justify why they are appropriate for your
study. State that the semi-structured interview is tailored-fit to your study and will undergo
validation from the subject-matter-expert.

Procedure
 State the data gathering procedure. Indicate the step-by-step process that you intend to perform.
You may specify details and process about the signing of the informed consent,
sourcing/invitation of respondents, process to follow for conducting virtual interviews, and other
details. In short, put guidelines before, during, and after the data gathering (interview).

Data Analysis
 Include details about how you will interpret the data. For qualitative studies, the common
approaches to data analysis are interpretative phenomenological analysis and thematic analysis.
Describe your mode of analysis framework and explain why they are appropriate in your
research study.

researchers’ recommendations to future researchers.
