I am writing to convey my great desire to pursue my studies at your excellent organization,
King Fahd University. I received my B.Sc. in Geology from Adigrat University in 2018
and my M.Sc. in Petroleum and Coal Geology from Addis Ababa University in 2022. I am
confident that my educational background matches with this golden opportunity.

My name is Yohannes Dessalegn and that I was a competitive candidate in the

undergraduate and postgraduate class, have always aimed for excellence and shown a strong
dedication to learn Geology. I have achieved academic success with an excellent grades
throughout my academic journey. My drive for Geology was further cemented when I had
the chance to participate in senior and postgraduate research projects and internships as a
Seismic (during undergraduate), sedimentological and stratigraphic data collector while
earning my previous degrees. I have skills on time management, problem-solving,
creativity, adaptability to a new environment, teamwork (e.g. in the field works), and
excellent communication. Through these experiences, I was exposed to real-world
problems and tried to apply some of my theoretical knowledge in the real-world settings.

Since Petroleum sector requires a multidisciplinary ability, I planned to further advance

practical skills from your top leading and prestigious institution. In addition to enhancing
cultural interactions, I will have the opportunity to learn from experienced scholars. The
institution’s strong track record in high quality education, ground-breaking research
environment with advanced laboratory, and innovation drew me to this competitive
award where I can see my self. So, I will have a solid research skill in the Geological,
Geophysical, and Geochemical data analysis and practically disseminate this skill to the
petroleum industry as it is the cornerstone for the economic development of Ethiopia.

To sum up, I am confident that this scholarship will help me achieve my academic goals,
contribute significantly to the society, and reach my full potential. I promise that I will be
a conscientious and committed scholar and that I will do everything I can to my studies,
research, and future undertakings to build a meaningful and well-rounded career.
