 Traditional Angolan religions believe in a close connection with the spirit of dead ancestors. They believe
that ancestors play a part in the lives of the living. Therefore, the spirits of dead ancestors remain
prominent members of the community. Ancestral worship is a common thread through many indigenous
religions.
 There are over 100 distinct ethnic groups and languages/dialects in Angola. Although Portuguese is the
official language, for many black Angolans it is a second or even third language. The three dominant ethnic
groups are the Ovimbundu, Mbundu (better called Ambundu, speaking Kimbundu) and the Bakongo.

 Angola, officially the Republic of Angola, is a
country on the west-central coast of Southern
Africa. It is the second-largest Lusophone
(Portuguese-speaking) country in both total area
and population and is the seventh-largest
country in Africa. It is bordered by Namibia to
the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo
to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic
Ocean to the west. Angola has an exclave
province, the province of Cabinda, that borders
the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic
Republic of the Congo. The capital and most
populous city is Luanda.
 The land area of Angola is 1,246,700 km2
(481,400 sq mi), And it is the world’s twenty-
second largest country – comparable in size to
Mali, or twice the size of France or of Texas. It
lies mostly between latitudes 4° and 18°S, and
longitudes 12° and 24°E.
 The current population of Angola is 37,552,049
as of 2024. Angola’s population is
overwhelmingly Christian. About two-fifths of
the population is Roman Catholic, about two-
fifths is Protestant, and some one-tenth adheres
to traditional beliefs or other religions.
 Angola is divided into eighteen provinces
(províncias) and 163 municipalities. There are a
total of 618 communes of Angola.
 Meanwhile, Subsistence agriculture provides
the main livelihood for most of Angola’s
population, but more than half of the country’s
food is still imported.
 The climate is tropical in the north and
subtropical in the south, with temperate
climates in the higher altitudes. There are two
distinct seasons: hot and humid (September to
May), in which the rainfall levels are quite high
and cold and dry (May to September), called
Cacimbo. Angola’s average temperatures are 27
° C maximum and 17 ° C minimum.
 Currently, Angola’s main agricultural crops
include cassava, corn, beans, potatoes, sweet
potatoes, soy, bananas, coffee, rice, vegetables,
and fruits. Domestic agricultural production
capacity does not meet local demand. Angola’s
agricultural potential is considered to be the
greatest in Southern Africa, thanks to
considerable water resources, a favorable
climate and a large amount of available arable
land.

Funge
 It is the basic dish of the Angolan diet, and
it’s the most popular food in the country. It
is made of Fuba (flour) of corn or cassava
(yuca). The northern region of Angola eats
more Funge made of cassava, and the
southern part eats more Funge of corn.

Kalandula Falls – The Kalandula Falls (formerly
Duque de Braganca Falls) are waterfalls in the
municipality of Kalandula, Malanje Province,
Angola. On the Lucala River, the falls are 105
meters (344 feet) high and 400 meters (1,300
feet) wide. They are one of the largest waterfalls
by volume in Africa. The distance from Luanda is
360 km.
Agostinho Neto Mausoleum - The Agostinho
Neto Mausoleum is an obelisk-like concrete

Cultural Center, which takes up 4,633 square

Angola Carnival Festival – The tradition of carnival-type street festivals and competitive
dance troupes appears to be an old one in Luanda. In 1620, at the end of the most serious
round of slave wars in Angola’s history, political allegory and mimicry were included in the
street processions celebrating the canonization of Saint Francis Xavier..
