INTRODUCTION to CRBT

Core Operations
Central-1
What is CRBT?

It is an RBT service triggered based on the

GMSC SS_CODE, with which the subscriber
can change the RBT freely and entertain the
callers with music or speech. Has been known
to give added values, raise brand attraction,
and improve customer satisfaction.
Principles of the Service
• Special subscription data of an RBT subscriber is configured on the HLR.
• The service is triggered by the GMSC SS_CODE in the Color Ring Service
Configuration table. (LST RBTCTRL)
• Upon receiving the SRI_ACK, the O-(G)MSC queries the Color Ring Service
Configuration table for the SS_CODE value contained in this message from the
HLR. If found, the originating (G)MSC marks the call as an RBT call.
• The originating MSC then connects to the terminating MSC (in the common call
procedure), and initiates a call to the AIP.
• After the ACM message is sent from the terminating MSC and AIP (or the ANM
message is sent from the AIP) and indicates the idle state of the callee, the
originating (G)MSC instructs the AIP to play RBTs by sending a CPG message to it.
• The AIP chooses and plays RBTs to the caller side based on the logic relation
between the calling and called numbers.
• When receiving the ANM message from the terminating MSC, the originating
(G)MSC releases the connection to the AIP, sends the ANM message to the calling
MS, and reactivates the voice channel between the caller and callee.

Configuration in HLR

• We are using MAP version GSMPHASE3

• In MAP Service Parameters, SRI_MSRN is
set to PLMN-SS-E. (LST MAPSERV)
• The service is provisioned via the MOD
PLMNSS per subscriber, where PROV is set
to TRUE and PLMNSPCSS is set to PLMN-SS-
E. (LST SS to check supplementary services)
Configuration in VMSC/GMSC
We use ADD RBTCTRL to add relevant GSM SS CODE information.
For Ufone following values are being used:
• Ring back tone service type is set to ”Speech ring back”.
• Ring back trigger type is set to ”GMSC SS_CODE”.
• Ring back trigger value is set to ”254”.
• Ring back processing type is set to ”Trigger in local MSC”.
• Ring back tone service center access code is set to “456” (Call prefix appended to
B party MSISDN of all CRBT calls)
• Called number format is set to ”Ring back prefix and called MSISDN”.
• Original call called format is unused.
• Ring back tone service center establishment type is set to Serial.
• Create ring back ticket is set to FALSE (Billing related parameter)
• Setup time for ring back ticket is not used (Billing related parameter)
Configuration in VMSC/GMSC

• ADD CNACLD is used to add the ring back prefix

and route it towards the CRBT

• For Ufone, the route selection name for “456”

prefix is set to ”LHEGMSC3B” in CNACLD for all
VMSCs and is set to “40” i.e. LHE-CRBT on LHE
GMSC3B itself.
Configuration in VMSC/GMSC

• Ring Back Trigger type set to GMSC SS CODE chooses the

scheme which we want to implement for CBT in our
network. There are as many as 7 schemes from which we
can choose. The decision is made on one’s network
topology.
• Ring Back Trigger Value is the value of PLMN-SS-E sent in
the SRI_ACK msg from HLR. It is this value which identifies
that the call is a CRBT call.
• Ring Back tone service center access code is the code that
is used to route calls towards CRBT with the Called Number
format.
Configuration in VMSC/GMSC
• RBT service center est. type is defined the type of method
used to start the call flow with the AIP. Serial is used when
the O-MSC is to start the flow with AIP after receiving ANM
msg from TMSC. Parallel is used when both the flow with
TMSC and AIP are to be started I parallel.
• Create Ring Back ticket is used charging CRBT calls per
CRBT call basis. We do not set this value as we are using
static charging.
• Setup time for ring back ticket is used for charging. Here
we define the point from which we need to charge the call
from. Message types e.g. ANM/ANC or CPG are used as the
inputs to this parameter.
