PUNO NG GUTOM
13/35MABINI
AT KAMATAYAN
I chose "Puno ng Gutom at Kamatayan"
because it's inspired by the Tree of Life
motif from European tapestries. But
instead of celebrating life, I wanted to
show how it represents the historical
oppression in the Philippines and other
formerly colonized places. It's like a
map, showing how colonialism has caused
ongoing struggles that we need to
address.

I picked "Visayas Dream" because it's a powerful

artwork by Santiago Bose, a well-known Filipino
artist who often explores cultural and social
issues. This painting seems to delve into themes
of identity and heritage, especially within the
Visayas region of the Philippines. It likely
reflects Bose's personal connection to the
Visayas, showcasing elements like festivals,
rituals, and landscapes that are important to
Visayan culture. Additionally, it might also
address broader themes of cultural preservation
and resilience in the face of modernization and
globalization. I chose this art because it
prompts viewers to think about Filipino identity
and heritage in today's world.
