ASSIGNMENT 3
Heritage Building: Rizal Shrine, Fort Santiago, Intramuros
Disaster that occurred: Fire nearby, Bastion

1. Create a scenario that endangers the shrine because of the nearby fire
It was a typical day for Fort Santiago, Intramuros, where visitors enjoyed the sights of historic
landmarks in the city. Until one afternoon, visitors sighted smoke coming from the ground floor.
They immediately evacuated the area and were assisted by the security personnel. However,
Rizal's memorabilia, manuscripts, and other works were moderately damaged since they could
call the fire station immediately. Luckily, no person was harmed due to the accident.

The main office confirmed that the electrical personnel of the shrine were on sick leave for two
weeks. Since there was a shortage of staff, the maintenance head, with little to no knowledge of
circuits, was assigned since there were no faulty wires in the past month. They thought
everything was fine until one day, smoke came from the building. Little did they know that a
defective wire couldn't hold the capacity since it was already outdated. Breakers are triggered
and overloaded by too much electric flow. Because of this, an electric fire occurred. They found
out that the cause of the short circuit was faulty wires that were outdated and installed
incorrectly.

2. What alternate scenarios can be made?

Earthquake: A sudden earthquake occurred as the ground began to tremble at a magnitude
Intensity V. The extent of the disaster becomes apparent since the shrine exhibits visible signs
of structural damage, with cracks spider-webbing across exterior walls and sections of the roof
partially collapsed.

War and Conflict: Violence breaks out in the city's streets as conflicts between the government
and rebel organizations grow more intense. Armed with air assistance and heavy artillery,
government forces launched an operation to put an end to the uprising and retake critical
locations.
