Printable & Digital

Looking for a way to familiarize your students with a variety of roots and affixes? Want to display base
words, roots, and affixes in your classroom? These posters are a great way to begin!

This freebie includes posters for common prefixes, suffixes, roots, and base words.

Each printable poster comes in three versions:

 Full color
 Black & White (ink-saving)
 3 per page Black & White (ink-saving AND paper-saving!)

If you are using the black and white versions and want to be able to differentiate between the word
parts quickly, print the prefixes on one color paper and the suffixes, base words, and roots on other
colors.

Each digital poster has two options to choose from:

 Digital poster only (with interactive menu and navigation buttons)
 Digital poster with editable text box for additional student examples

For more information about each digital version, see page 10.

NOTE: We are constantly striving to make resources as complete and accurate for
you as possible. Due to updates, the 3/page and 6/page versions are not in
alphabetical order. Any additions made since the first version are at the end of each
of those sections. Thank you for understanding.

A morpheme is group of
letters that has meaning. It
can be part of a word or the
entire word.
Base words, roots, and affixes
are types of morphemes.
© Jennifer Findley
A bound morpheme is a
part of a word that cannot
stand alone.

Roots, prefixes, and suffixes

are bound morphemes.
© Jennifer Findley
A free morpheme is a part
of a word that can stand
alone.

Base words are free

morphemes.
© Jennifer Findley
A word sum shows how a
word is built. It separates
each meaningful word part
(morpheme) with a plus sign.

to create a new word.

A root is a part of a word that
contains the core meaning. It is not
a word by itself. It can be used to
create new words by adding
