2. Find the equation of the tangent plane to the surface z = x2 + ln y at the point (2, 1, 4).

3. By about how much will the function f (x, y, z) = e(x−y) + 2 arctan z change as the point
P (0, 0, 0) moves from the origin a distance ds = 0.2 unit in the direction of v = ~i +~j + 2~k?

b) if (x, y) moves from (2, 1) to (2.1, 1.3), then estimate the absolute change in f .

7. Find all the local maxima, local minima, and saddle points of the functions:
a) f (x, y) = 10xy + 14x2 − 6x − 12y + 2
b) f (x, y) = −(x − 2)3 − 3(x − 2)(y − 2) + (y − 2)3 + 2
