Avoid these
5 CV mistakes
If You Want To Get Hired.

Follow
These Steps
Important: There is no such
thing as a perfect CV.

But these 4 things matter most :

1-2 pages in length

Clear and concise format
Quantifiable bullet points
No typos and grammatical errors

Note: For a 2-page CV add the key

information required for the role on page 1

Let's dive in...

Mistake 1 : Failing to convince
you can do the job

The hiring manager scans for 4 things within 6

seconds to decide if you are the right fit :

Job title
Past companies
Relevant work experience
Keywords related to the job

Use a clean format to make this information

scannable.

Example on slide 8
Mistake 2 : Your bullet points
sound like a job responsibility

Focus on the results you delivered :

Average job seekers :

Responsible for negotiating a deal for the client
base.

Successful candidates :
Negotiated a deal that saved 40% by using
mirroring strategy to persuade the client about the
platform's value.

Your past result is an indication of future success.

Make your bullet points count.
Mistake 3 : Not customising
based on the role

Remove the objective section and create a work

experience summary.
Write 2-3 bullet points related to the job to show
why you are a good fit.

My Resume e.g. Sales Experience Summary

1. Exceeded target on average by 130% by prospecting

and closing new business worth £10m+ across roles.

2. Prospected and negotiated multi-year subscription

deals and on-boarded 10+ Enterprise customers in
2021 delivering net new business worth + £1m.

Note:
Add keywords and achievements
mentioned in the job spec.
Mistake 4 : Applying to jobs
not aligned with your skills
and experience

You don't need to meet 100% requirements

70% + and above is a good match

Tip : Read the job spec and then your resume.

If your resume bullet points don't contain the

skills and experience that are required in the job,
most likely you will not be considered.
Mistake 5 : Not adding
Linkedin profile

Add LinkedIn in the top section with contact

information.

LinkedIn is important as it :
Shows your achievements and recommendations
Paints a picture of your background and broader
skills.

A resume is targeted to a specific job, and LinkedIn is

your personal brand.

how to optimise LinkedIn.
