4)
Find the critical disruptive voltage and the critical voltages for local and
general corona on a 3-phase overhead transmission line, consisting of
three stranded copper conductors spaced 2.5 m apart at the corners of an
equilateral triangle. Air temperature and pressure are 21°C and 73.6 cm
Hg respectively. The conductor dia, irregularity factor and surface factors
are 10.4 mm, 0.85, 0.7 and 0.8 respectively.
5) Each conductor of a three phase OHTL is suspended from a cross arm of
a steel tower by a string of four suspension insulators. The voltage across
the second unit is 12 kV and across the third unit is 16 kV. Calculate the
ratio of capacitance between pin and earth to the self-capacitance of each
unit.
6) Using Peek’s formula, determine the total corona loss (in kW) in a rough
weather condition for a 132 kV, 50 Hz, 3-phase, 175 km long
transmission line which consists of three 1.6 cm diameter stranded copper
conductors arranged in a 3.5 m delta. Assume air temperature = 26∘C;
barometric pressure = 750 mm of Hg; surface irregularity factor = 0.86;
dielectric strength of air (at STP) to be 21.1 kV (rms)/cm. Also assume
the disruptive critical voltage under rough weather condition is 0.8 times
the disruptive critical voltage under fair weather condition.
7) A conductor with a 2.5 cm diameter is passed centrally through a
porcelain bushing εr = 4 having internal and external diameters of 3 cm
and 9 cm, respectively. The voltage between the conductor and an earthed
clamp surrounding the porcelain is 20 kV r.m.s. Determine whether
corona will be present in the air space round the conductor.
8) Determine the maximum voltage that the string of the suspension
insulators in the below figure can withstand if the maximum voltage per
unit is 17.5 kV.
