INTRODUCTION
Saponification- is the process by which soap is made
by the alkaline hydrolysis of animal fats or
vegetable oil.
Soapy detergents do not lather easily in hard water,
rather scum is formed.
Soapy detergents do not pollute because they are
biodegradable and do not contain phosphate.

OBJECTIVES
1. The objective of this soap is to combat the uses of inorganic
soaps by creating an organic product that not only provides
benefits to the skin and properly cleanses it but also focuses
on the green principles of the earth.
2. Describe the final outcome of the project.
3. Provide insight on how we included the green chemistry
principles to create an organic product.

GREEN CHEMISTRY PRINCIPLES 1
TARGETED

Design less hazardous chemical syntheses

All organic materials were used which should avoid damage
to the human skin.

Design safer chemicals and products

Most materials were created from scratch
and are unprocessed.
GREEN CHEMISTRY PRINCIPLES 1
TARGETED CONT.
Use renewable feedstocks
The primary oil, coffee oil, was created from the waste left behind by
the coffee maker.

Design for degradation

The final soap product is expected to break down naturally due to its organic
composition .

Analyse in real time to prevent pollution.

Our soap was designed to create an eco friendly product.
PROCEDURES

· Using the materials: Almond oil, Coconut oil, almond flour, water and, most importantly,
lye start by adding water to a heat-proof container with high walls to which you will then
dissolve lye. Do not breathe in the fumes.
· Place the mixture aside until needed. Coconut oil will be melted to 100-110 F degrees.
· After, 3.2 oz of sweet almond oil will be added alongside the already melted coconut oil
and then removed from the heat.
· When both the lye and oil have cooled to 90-110 F, they are mixed.
· When the mixture has become a thick pudding-like structure, add the remaining Sweet
almond oil and the coffee powder. Stir this mixture together until fully combined. Add
almond flour and stir again. Pour the soap into the mould which is covered by parchment
paper. Cover with plastic wrap and a blanket. Set the mold aside in a cool place for the soap
to harden.
