Review of the Past Lesson

This system provides a creative way for how
people can measure themselves. For example,
people measure shorter distances on the ground
with their feet. They measure long distances by
their palms which is equal to a yard.

This system is a decimalized system of
measurement. It exists in several variations with
different choices of base units. Metric units are
widely used around the world for personal,
commercial, and specific purposes.

EXTENSION
CORD
ASSEMBLY
Electrical gadgets and
electrical appliances make our
lives easier but there might not
be enough outlets for all our
devices and appliances. That’s
why electrical engineer S.W.
Atherton came up with the
extension cord in 1904.
Extension cords are responsible for causing 4,000
injuries and 3,300 fires every year. Out of these
injuries, half of them are caused due to tripping,
and unfortunately, 50 people lost their lives in
these fires. The Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC) reports that short circuits,
overloading, damage, and misuse of the cords are
the primary causes of these fires. (University of
Delaware, 2022)
Choosing the right extension cord for your
household electrical devices and circuits depends
on the environment and usage, plug type and
power rating.

Extension cords are categorized as indoor and outdoor

cords. Generally, outdoor cords are designed to be
stronger to protect against moisture, sunlight, and
abrasion. Some cords are even designed to withstand
extreme temperatures, oil, and chemicals.
3 Categories of Outdoor
Extension Cord
1. Occasional use Cord- for smaller projects and
tools.
2. frequent use Cord- Frequent-use cords are
for handling larger tools and equipment intended for
heavier use
3. Rugged cords- Rugged cords are for continuous use
on job sites. These cords are designed to be functional
even in extreme weather with the presence of
highamperage tools.

Procedures:

needed.
• Insert the cord into the male plug. Split the cord wires

about 8 centimeters long.

• Remove insulation of both wires 1 centimeter long with a
pocket knife as if sharpening a pencil.
• Be careful not to cut any strands.
• Scrape bare wire with the back of the knife until shiny. Twist
the wire stands.
• Tie the underwriter’s knot.
• Make a loop on terminal wires and connect the wires
to the screw of the male plug. The loop should go
with the thread in a clockwise direction.
• Split the cord wires at the other end about 4
centimeters long, then follow step no. 4.
• Connect the wires to the connectors.
• Open the convenience outlet then remove
the screw.
• Insert the wire connectors into the screws, tighten
them, and replace the cover.
• Check the continuity and test the extension cord.
