Version 1. Curriculum 2019 – March 2019 .DT.PO
Introduction
The company’s prospective officer (PO) training program consists of shore based training
periods followed by shipboard assignments. The shore based phases provide the PO with
opportunity to receive theoretical and practical training by highly qualified instructors using
modern equipment and state of art simulators. During the shipboard assignments, it is
expected that the cadets practice what they have learned.
The purpose of this Project Work Book is to provide a structured link between the shore
based training and its practical application in a working environment.
Expected outcomes:
- Review what the PO was taught in the company training center prior the current
assignment
- Retention of previously acquired knowledge and improving skills
- Develop ability to solve tasks independently
- Assessment of PO competence after the assignment.
- Objective evidence for achieved competence for career advancement
This book replaces the previous Project Work Book for the Filipino cadets. It is issued in two
parts. The tasks contained in each part are relevant to the training they have received in the
company training center prior to the shipboard assignment and are part of the STCW Table
AII/1. The Project Work Book is part of the approved company training documentation and is
complimentary to the ISF Training Record Book for Cadets.
Guide to completion
The book starts with ship’s specifications followed by proposed pre-planned training
schedule. The training schedule is for guidance only and could be adapted and modified by
the Master as needed.
In the blank space after the task a clear workout of the problem should be entered. This will
facilitate the review and the assessment of PO work during the debriefing after the
assignment.
Each completed page should be verified by the signature of the Master and/or designated on
board training officer and stamped.
It is expected all tasks to be completed during the first 6 months on board.
The PO are thoroughly instructed how to use this book.
Probably you still remember how you felt and what you needed when you started your
career. Please kindly assist them in their efforts to become competent officers. The way we
train them today will define the quality of the officers that will join the ships tomorrow.
If there are further questions, please address to responsible person as appointed by the
principal or contact POTP/UMTC at POTP@Marlow.com.ph

Calculate the flow rate of a tank if de-ballasting by gravity. Use the principle
given in the appendix.
Use for calculation:
Height of the tank : 8 m
Discharge opening: 5”
Assume that the height from the water surface to the discharge opening, if the
tank is
Full: 8 m
75% filled : 6 m
50% filled: 4 m
25% filled: 2m
Calculate for each state the flow rate assuming that the discharge opening is
constant.
What is you average flow rate for this tank of your Cd = 0,98 and 0,81
Conversion:
1 in³/sec = 0.000016387064 m³/sec
