Lab Task No: 01

Question:

Practice the construction of straight through cable and cross over cable and verify the connection
with LAN cable tester.
Procedure:

Stright connection:

1. Start by stripping off about 2 inches of the plastic jacket off the end of the cable.
2. Spread the wires apart, but be sure to hold onto the base of jacket with your hand.
3. Now we have to decide which end of the cable we are making at this time.
4. Arrange the wires with any sequence. And make sure to connect same sequence to other side.
5. Cut the wires with cutter with equal space.
6. Insert the connector into the crimper.
7. By pressing the crimper onto the wire, we hear a sound of clicking.
8. Our connection is ready.

Crossover connection:

1. Start by stripping off about 2 inches of the plastic jacket off the end of the cable.
2. Spread the wires apart, but be sure to hold onto the base of jacket with your hand.
3. Now we have to decide which end of the cable we are making at this time.
4. Arrange the wires with crossover sequence. And make sure to maintain the sequence to other
side.
The sequence is:
First End Second End
1. Brown 1. Light Brown Striped
2. Light brown 2. Blue striped
3. Light Brown Striped 3. Brown
4. Blue 4. Blue
5. Brown Striped 5. Brown Striped
6. Blue Striped 6. Light Brown
7. Green 7. Green
8. Green striped 8. Green Striped

5. Cut the wires with cutter with equal space.

6. Insert the connector into the crimper.
7. By pressing the crimper onto the wire, we hear a sound of clicking.
8. Our connection is ready.

Conclusion

Stright connection:
In a straight connection, also known as a straight-through connection, the wiring
arrangement at one end of the cable is identical to the arrangement at the other end.
Straight-through cables are typically used to connect devices that operate on different
network layers, such as connecting a computer to a switch or a router to a switch.
In a straight-through cable, the wires are connected in the same order on both ends. For
example, pin 1 on one end is connected to pin 1 on the other end, pin 2 to pin 2, and so on.
The wiring arrangement ensures that the transmit signals from one device are correctly
received by the receiving pins on the other device.

Crossover connection:
In a crossover connection, the wiring arrangement at one end of the cable is
reversed compared to the arrangement at the other end.
Crossover cables are typically used to directly connect similar devices, such as connecting a
computer to another computer, or connecting two switches or two routers together without
the need for an intermediate device like a hub or a switch.
In a crossover cable, certain wires are crossed over so that the transmit signals from one
device are connected to the receive pins on the other device, and vice versa.
This crossover of wires allows two devices to communicate directly without the need for a
separate networking device to facilitate the connection.
