Today in my practicum experience with my preceptor, I observe many patients they are mostly Spanish
speaking but there are English and Haitian Creole speaking languages. Each patient was provided a
translator from the unit translator staff as needed. Some of the patients are bilanguages. Care cannot be
delayed because they are well equipes with equipment to provide quality of care to patients. I observed
my preceptor for diabetes patient checked A1c for some others urine analysis, strep, covid, Flu test
depending on the patient symptom. They only sent urine to the stated laboratory culture and
sensitivities. EKG machine and eye exam machine are just like a camera that detects if the patient needs
glasses. The system informatics is well advanced, and coordinated to respond to needs and plan of care.
My preceptor for every body meal break she made sure that while all the staff are taking break she stay
in case is there is a patient that walked in due to an emergency that patient can be taking care of and
also every consultation rooms can be clean and everything that need to be refilled can be ready for the
staff after their lynch break and then she can take her own meal break when everybody is back to the
floor. Communication among coworkers is excellent.
In practicum experience today my preceptor was mostly coordinate care scheduled F/U appointment,
refill prescriptions, calling patients to remind them of their appointments, and collaborating health care
needs for patients. She also helped her coworkers in the pediatric area. Patients were seen for
preventive care and sick visits. Patient privacy was well handled. Instructions were given to parent what
to expect and not to expect after vaccination given to the child.
