1. Overview

SBC5000 is an application-level intelligent session border controller. The unit is deployed at

the user access side for firewall or NAT traversal to reach the softswitch center; by firewall or NAT
traversal, the unit realizes voice stream interconnectivity between IP networks separated by
firewalls.
Based on the sharing characteristic of IP networks, SBC5000 achieves location–unaffected
VoIP, ridding of the limitations from various kinds of network firewalls or NAT devices on VoIP
calls. The product boasts an intelligent routing function and complete and sound management
functions, ideally applicable to sectors including multi-IP-network converged communications,
VoIP, call centers, and public and private network IP calls.

 Firewall Traversal
SBC5000 solves service traversal problems in NAT/ firewall networking. Traditionally, VoIP
two-way connection services are affected by NAT devices, resulting in a failure of service
initiation from an external public network to the intranet. Adopting a unique algorithm, the unit
automatically detects the settings of firewall packet filtering and dynamically controls terminal
equipment to implement effective traversal. It supports multi-layer NAT traversal and provides
VoIP session traversal solutions to various kinds of IP network security settings.
 Intelligent Router for Managing Voice Stream Services
As a new-generation intelligent network router, SBC5000 can create/ delete routing tables
based on interpretation of signaling streams and establish an exclusive voice stream link for
each call between separate networks.

 Flexible Distributed Networking

The functionality of SBC5000 suffices the firewall applicationsof the softswitch core platform.
By different networking configurations, the unit can implement different solutions and
functions. The unit is deployed with core devices, such as softswitch, trunking gateway, and
service server in a private network and functions as a firewall to separate the core devices
from the public network so as to guarantee device security. Deployed in a distributed manner,
the unit connects directly to metropolitan area networks (MANs) or enterprise networks in
different places and completes service access, extending the range of the singly deployed
softswitch core platform.
 More Operation and Management Features
SBC5000 can effectively prevent access by unauthorized devices based on its terminal
equipment authentication function; with the roaming terminal equipment identification and
management function,SBC5000 allowsterminal equipment roaming but limits its roaming
range. The functionality of the product provides users with practical and effective means to
operate and manage the entire network.
