Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Hello and good morning to the honourable judges, beloved

teachers and friends. My name is Wazeera. I’m from SK Wan Ibrahim, Kuala Lipis Pahang
and I’m 12 years old. Today, I would like to tell a story entitled..

The Legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang

Once upon a time, in a country name Johore, there were two princesses and a prince were
playing in the compound of a palace.Their father, Sultan Mahmud Shah observed them playing
with sadness in his heart.

“I sympathise with my children. They lost their loving mother when they were small,”
sighed the Sultan.

Hence, the sultan paid full attention to his children.

One night,Sultan Mahmud Shah had a dream. He dreamt that he metPuteri Gunung
Ledang who was very beautiful. Unfortunately, the princess disappeared before he could make a
proposal.

Since that night, Sultan Mahmud Shah always thought of her. Finally,he ordered the
soldiers to bring a group of people to propose Puteri Gunung Ledang.

The group had to travel deep into the jungle before arriving at Gunung Ledang. At last,
they reached a beautiful garden. The flowers there were colourful and the birds chirped
melodious tunes. They were surprised to hear the bamboo making sounds as if they were
singing every time the wind blew.

“The garden is so beautiful,” praised the group leader.

Suddenly appeared a fairy god mother from a hut , with roof made of hairs and pillars
made of bones. Her hair was grey and her body hunched.

“What is your purpose of coming here, my dear son ?” queried the fairy godmother.

“We wanted to ask for Puteri Gunung Ledang’s hand for Sultan Mahmud Shah,” replied
the group leader.

Actually Puteri Gunung Ledang disguised herself as the fairy godmother.

1
“The princess accepted the proposal but with the following conditions,” said the fairy
godmother.

“What are the conditions?” asked the group leader.

“Sultan Mahmud Shah has to build a bridge of gold and silver from his palace to Gunung
Ledang. He must also prepare seven trays of germs’ and mosquitoes’ hearts, a jug of tears from
a virgin girl and a bowl of Prince Ahmad blood,” explained the fairy godmother.

Then, the group returned to the palace. Sultan Mahmud Shah could not wait any longer
to hear the news.

“Did Puteri Gunung Ledang accept my proposal?” asked the sultan excitedly.

They told Sultan Mahmud Shah what happened and the demands of the Puteri Gunung
Ledang.

All the requests of Puteri Gunung Ledang were fullfilled except for the bowl of Prince
Ahmad . After having given much thought to it, Sultan Mahmud Shah resolved to cut a small
part of his son’s body. That night, the sultan entered Prince Ahmad’s room with a keris.

When the keris was about to cut the skin of the prince, a light suddenly lit up the room.
Sultan Mahmud Shah was shocked to see Puteri Gunung Ledang appeared before him.

“I didn’t expect my Lord to harm his son for his own interest. My requests are just to test
you, my Lord. I am not willing to marry a cruel person like you,”

After the conversation, Puteri Gunung Ledang vanished. Sultan Mahmud Shah came to
his senses and realised his mistake.

He deeply regretted the events that took place and at once asked his son for forgiveness. Since
then,Sultan Mahmud Shah only focused his attention on his family and running the government.

Dear friends,

The moral of the story is we should not be selfish and cruel like the sultan.

A lonely Sultan,
A beautiful Princess,
Wrong and mistaken,
Regret and forgiveness.
