READING REPORT

Name Maria del Carmen Villamizar Vega Date April 28th/24

1. Title of the reading The Happy Prince Author Oscar Wilde

2. All readings teach a lesson (theme/moral). What did you learn from this one?
It leaves me with several important lessons. One of them is about compassion and altruism, showing
how the Happy Prince sacrifices his own happiness and comfort to help those in need in his city. It also
teaches about true beauty, which is not limited to the physical, but lies in acts of generosity and
kindness to others.

3. Setting (Where the reading takes place?).

Is set in an unspecified city, but is inspired by the city of London during the Victorian era.

4. Main Characters (Give a brief description of each character).

* The Happy Prince is a gold-covered statue depicting a generous and compassionate prince.
* The Swallow is a young and loyal bird that decides to stay with the Happy Prince to help those in
need in the city.

5. Plot (Write a summary about the story).

"The Happy Prince" is a tale that tells the story of a gold-covered statue of a prince, called The Happy
Prince, and a swallow. The prince, from his pedestal, observes the injustices and suffering of the people
in the city. With the help of the swallow, the prince sacrifices his wealth to help those in need, such as a
poor girl and a sick writer. As the prince and the swallow perform acts of kindness, both suffer and lose
their beauty, but their charitable actions leave a lasting impact on the city. Finally, when the prince and
the swallow have nothing left to give, an angel takes them to heaven, where their noble hearts are
recognized.

6. Did you like the reading? Why or Why not?

Yes, I love it! I think Oscar Wilde is one of the best children's story writers of all time. The story of the
prince, who gives himself so authentically to others, is touching and profound, as well as showing a
number of important moral values.

7. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best) where would you rate this book? Why 9 out of 10. I think
Oscar Wilde demonstrated his genius in this story. The narrative is emotional and profound, the
language is beautifully written and the moral is profound. Although it is supposed to be for
children, I think this story is also enjoyable and valuable for adults.
