 FOREWORD
He purpose of writing this paper is to fulfill the
assignment given by Mrs. Siti Nurul Badriah as an
English teacherAnd in the preparation of this paper,
the authors encountered many challenges and
obstacles, but with the help of various parties these
challenges could be overcome. The writer realizes that
there are still many shortcomings in the writing of this
paper.For this reason, the author expresses his
deepest gratitude to all those who have helped in the
preparation of this paper, I hope that their assistance
will receive a worthy reward from Allah SWT and we
will all be blessed by Allah. The author realizes that
this paper is still far from perfection both in form
arrangement and material. Therefore the author
hopes that criticism from all readers can help writers
in perfecting the next paper. Finally, I hope this paper
can be useful to add to the development of insights
about biographical material.

A.Understanding Biography Text

A biography text is simply an account or detailed description about the life of person. It
entails basic fact, such as childhood, education, career, relationships, family , and death.
Biography is a literary genre that portrays the experiences of all these events accurring in
the life of person, mostly in a chronological order. Unlike a resume or profile, a biography
provides a life story of a subject, highlighting different aspects of his of her life. A person
who writes biographies, is called as a “biographer”
The function of biography are as follow.
1. To know a person’s story about/her life outside of any accomplishments this
person may be know for.
2. To give many information easily and aducate the readers.
Biography text is a detailed description or account of a person’s life and written by
someone else, it is non fiction text.
B. Making a Simply Biography Text
Before we make a biography text , we should know the characteristic and generic structure
of biography text.
1. Characteristic of Biography
The characteristic of biography text are as follow.
a. Biography is not written by subject and always written in third person.
b. Based on research.
c. Describe the person’ surroundings ( where, when and how the person lived )
d. Use vivid language to narrate events.

2. Generic Structure of Biography Text

The generic structure of biography text are as follow.
a. Orientation ( introduction)
it is the opening paragraph. It gives tge readers the background information of the
person.
b. Events
In events , it should be chronological order
c. Re-orientation ( closing )
It consist of conclusing or a comment or the writer. It tells about the achievement or the
contribution of the person. It can be optional

struggle for Indonesian independence, a national
hero, statesman and Indonesian economist who
served as the first Vice President of Indonesia. He
and Soekarno were the Proclaimers of
Independence, played a central role in the
struggle for Indonesian independence from Dutch

on August 17, 1945

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Xhosa pronunciation:

[xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]; 18 July 1918 – 5 December
2013) was a South African antiapartheid revolutionary
and politician who served as President of South Africa
from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South
African to hold office and the first president to be
elected by full representation, in a multiracial
election. His government focused on eliminating
apartheid’s influence by eradicating racism, poverty
and inequality, and promoting racial reconciliation.
