Part I: Skittles Project

A. Purchase a 2.17-ounce bag of Original Skittles and count the number of candies of
each color in the bag. Also, give the total number of candies in the bag. Report the
values in this format:

Red: 13

Orange: 12

Yellow: 11

Green: 12

Purple: 8

Total: 56

B.

C. Answer these questions:

a. What is the most common color and least common color?
Most common: Red
Least common: Purple
b. What is the relative frequency for red Skittles? Note: this is the value for p^
that you will use in part E below.
13/56= 0.23214286 = 0.232
c. Conjecture the number of Skittles of the most common color if you had a
bag of 5,000 total Skittles.
5000*(13/56)= 1160.714286 = 1161 Would be red

D. Were the Skittles you used a random sample? Explain.

The Skittles that I used are a random sample, because they were distributed to
stores randomly, and I bought them randomly.

E. Carry out a simulation for red Skittles with 10,000 trials to test of these
hypotheses:

The P-value calculated is

0.1027.Since The P-value is
greater than a=0.05(P >0.05)
,we fail to reject the null
hypothesis. There is no
sufficient evidence to
conclude that the proportion
of red skittles is different than
0.2.
