Balancing Equations

 Balancing an equation means that whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do
to the other side of the equation.
 This means that the left hand and right-hand sides of the equals sign are equivalent, they
balance. The equation may contain an unknown quantity (variable/letter) that we wish to
find, the goal is to isolate this on one side of the equation.

One Step
1. Identify the operation acting on the variable
2. Apply the inverse operation to both sides of the equation
3. Simplify both sides of the equation

Two Step
1. Apply the inverse operations in the reverse order to BIDMAS. First, identify any
addition/subtraction acting on the x term.
2. Identify any multiplication/division acting on the variable
3. Simplify and identify the unknown number of the variable
Learning Intention: To be able to solve equations.
