Grade 7- STE 7 A

LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 7

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. Define surface wave.
2. Identify the direction of surface waves as it travelled.
3. Appreciate the importance of waves in a real situation.

II. LEARNING TASKS

A. SUBJECT MATTER: SURFACE WAVE
1. CONCEPT
Waves – A wave is a disturbance or variation that travels through a medium,
transferring energy from one point to another without causing any permanent displacement of
the medium itself. In the context of transverse waves, the vibrating element moves in a
direction perpendicular to the direction of advance of the wave. This motion creates a pattern
of crests and troughs as the wave propagates through the medium. Waves can be classified
into different types, such as transverse waves and longitudinal waves, based on the direction
of particle displacement relative to the direction of wave propagation.
Vibration -refers to a repetitive motion or oscillation of an object around an
equilibrium position. In the case of transverse vibration, the element moves to
and from in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the advance of the
wave. This type of motion creates transverse waves, where the particles of the
medium vibrate perpendicularly at right angles, up and down, and continue to
move in the direction of the wave.
Surface wave – Surface waves are a type of mechanical wave that travel along the
boundary between two different media, such as air and water or the Earth's crust.
These waves differ from both longitudinal and transverse waves because they
exhibit a combination of characteristics, involving both horizontal and vertical
motion.
