SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

The tower-making activity started with strategic planning outside the

classroom. It was the moment when we have to pronounce the word teamwork

from our hearts despite our differences. Our goal was to make a tower out of the

materials that we have; a pack of marshmallows, two hundred and fifty grams of

spaghetti pasta, and of course a paper as a guide on the area of the structure.

The brainstorming time went well and we agreed to focus on the same

objective which we have to put more marshmallows on our foundation.

Unfortunately, it did not go well. The marshmallows became thinner as we pierced

through the pasta to make beams and columns. Nonetheless, we successfully

survived the final challenge of walking the tower around the room without

structural failures.

As we proceed on to the next activity, the representatives went on the front

for instructions and disseminated it on to their members. It was then the

preparation for the next activity commenced.

Preparing for the activity really took out time as we fix the strings on the

marker, making it a bit secured using the scotch tape that we brought for the

activity. Regardless of the time consumed, we enjoyed the preparation

The instructor then called the representatives to go outside for further

instructions. It did take a while before the information about drawing a robot using

the strings that we tied on the marker was spread throughout the different groups.

Our first try at drawing the robot was quite a mess so we decided to start

again on a new bond paper. It was at this time we decided to concentrate and focus

on what we were doing.

The time went out and all of the class gathered outside to post their drawings

on the windows. Fortune was bestowed upon us when we ranked third out of the

seven groups out there.

OBSERVATIONS

We have observed that the foundation must be wider and heavier to support

the weight of the whole tower. Regardless of the effort we provided to sustain

enough loads on each side of the structure, the small mallows did not pass the

suitable requirement on the foundation and joints to carry the succeeding beams

and columns that are made of pasta. Hence, it failed to carry the beams and

columns made of pasta.

As we go through the process of trial and error in the tower making, creating

the base wider and then working our way up to go smaller made our output

stronger and able to stand on its own without putting too much weight on one side.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

We discovered that the mallows’ small size tends to fail faster than we

thought. Even if stuck with another bundle of mallows, the small mallows can't

serve their purpose as joints to build the tower. Furthermore, the pasta is thin and a

bit soft, making it easily break as our structure increases.

LEARNINGS

We have learned that unity is very crucial in performing different activities.

Take the tower-making activity example, if all of the members are doing their own

part, the tower will be taller and stronger, except for different factors like the

materials that have been used. Build the tower with a strong foundation or base,

multiple portions of pasta on one side are recommended. Assist the second base by

addition ng another set of pasta in a diagonal position from the first base to the

second base. The bigger the marshmallows we have, the better the tower we built!
