TỪ ĐỊNH LƯỢNG
I. Từ chỉ số lượng lớn nhỏ:
1. A lot of, lots of, many, much: (nhiều)
a. A lot of, lots of + danh từ số nhiều/danh từ không điếm được trong câu khẳng định
Ex: - He has a lot of / lots of friends here.
- We need a lot of / lots of time to learn a foreign language.
b. Many, much: dùng trong câu phủ định và câu nghi vấn
- MANY + danh từ số nhiều
- MUCH + danh từ không điếm được
Ex: - There aren’t many people living here.
- Does the newspaper have much information?
 Many, much sau VERY, SO, TOO, AS:
Ex: - Very many crimes go unreported.
- We had so many exercises to do.
- There is too much salt in the soup.
- He hasn’t got as much patience as I thought.
2. A few, a little / few, little: (một vài, một ít / (rất) ít)
a. A few, a little: dùng với nghĩa xác định
- A few + danh từ số nhiều
- A little + danh từ không điếm được
Ex: We’ve got a little bacon and a few eggs.
b. Few, little: dùng với nghĩa phủ định
- Few + danh từ số nhiều
- Little + danh từ không điếm được
Ex: - Few people can say that they always tell the truth.
- There is little sugar in my coffee.
3. A large number of, a great deal of/a large amount of: (số lượng lớn)
a. A large numer of + danh từ số nhiều
Ex: He has a large number of English books.
A number of + Ns + động từ số nhiều
The number of + Ns + động từ số ít
b. A great deal of + danh từ không điếm được
Ex: A dishwasher uses a great deal of electricity.
II. Từ chỉ số lượng toàn thể/ bộ phận:
1. All, most, some, any, no:
a. Với danh từ điếm được số nhiều và không điếm được:
Ex: All rabbits love green food. My brother likes all music.
Most students love football. Most pollution can be avoided.
I’ve just bought some books. Would you like some beer?
She didn’t have any friends. Have you got any wood?
We have no Sundays free. I have no time to talk to you.
 SOME dùng trong câu khẳng định và câu hỏi.
 ANY dùng trong câu phủ định và câu hỏi.
b. Với cấu trúc OF + the/these/those/my/her/our… + N (ít/nhiều)
Ex: Most of my students like English. Some of the food is delicious.
c. Với cấu trúc OF + đại từ tân ngữ (us/you/them/it)
Ex: Some of you have made careless mistakes in your tests.
 Không dùng cấu trúc NO OF + …
2. Every, each, both, either, neither:
a. Every, each + N điếm được số ít (hàm ý tất cả hoặc mỗi một người/ vật trong nhóm)
Ex: - Every/Each room has a number.
- I go for walk every day. (mỗi ngày)
- Each day seems to pass very slowly. (từng ngày)
b. Each of + the/these/those/my/her/our… + N số nhiều
Ex: Each of the students has a personal computer.
c. Each of + đại từ tân ngữ (us/you/them)
Ex: Each of us has our own desk.
d. Each đứng một mình hoặc đi sau đại từ
Ex: - They gave us each an English book.
- Each has an English book.
e. Both, either, neither + N (đi với 2 người hoặc 2 vật)
Ex: - Both his parents are from Europe.
- You can read either book. (one of 2 books)
- Neither car is very economical to run. (2 cars)
f. Both, either, neither + OF + the/these/those/my/her/our… + N số nhiều
Ex: - Both of his parents are from Europe.
- You can read either of the books.
- Neither of the cars is/are very economical to run.
g. Both, either, neither + OF + đại từ tân ngữ (us/you/them)
Ex: Both of us were tired.
