Measurement principle

Detection of transit time

L
t AB =
c + v p cos( )
Transit times:
L
tBA =
c − v p cos( )

L  1 1 
vp =  - 
2 cos( )  t AB t BA 

vp - average velocity on measuring path

tAB,tBA - transit times
L - length of measuring path
a - installation angle to flow axis
c - speed of sound

Check Cycle

Zero point check (send & receive via internal loop)

: A sender signal is internally sent back and picked up as a receiver signal
and is amplified, demodulated and evaluated.
: This check covers the entire system, including the transducers. If everything is
working correctly, the zero point of the system is obtained.
: Deviations over 0.25 m/s (0.8 ft/s) cause a warning message. In this case
transducer and electronics have to be checked separately.

: SICK : NEP 2009 FLOWSIC100

Basics of FLOWSIC100

Check Cycle

Span test (send & receive with internal time delay)

: send & receive via internal loop
: A time difference, corresponding to 70 % of full scale is added to the
measurement.
: If all system components are functional, the result of the measurement equals
the calculated time delay.
: In case of deviations, a malfunction message occurs.

Mounting and installation

: Why is the single-probe version good as well?

- For it doesn’t matter that much
- if there is just one probe.
Minimum distance to stack wall were
the local velocity is representative for
- As long as you don’t measure the flow profile

too close to the wall.

Close to stack wall the

gas velocity goes to
zero
