ART APPRECIATION

1. Provide an example of an artwork that falls under the category of figurative art. Describe the subject
matter and what the artwork conveys.
 THE SON OF MAN (1964) BY RENÉ MAGRITTE
- In this photo, a green apple is partially covering a man wearing a suit and
bowler hat. We can't see the man's face because of the apple, which makes us
wonder what is hidden and what is visible. One of Magritte's most famous
paintings, it is remarkable in its simplicity.
- A guy holding an apple in front of his face is depicted in the picture The Son of
guy. This picture suggests that what we see is not always what we get, which
challenges our understanding of reality. The truth could be represented by
the man's face, and the knowledge of good and evil by the fruit.
2. Discuss the significance of nature and wildlife as subject matter in art. How does it inspire artists and
viewers alike?
 Cosmic Frog
- These works address the subject of nature in art by presenting a
transcending bridge, akin to Zen, that connects animalistic
consciousness with conceptual thought. Careful use of color and
ornamental design brings these two contrasts together. This artwork
shows a frog in front of several equations relating to black holes.
- This sketch illustrates one method of tackling the subject of nature in
art. Cosmic Frog picture connects cosmic, universal computations with terrestrial, amphibious life,
fusing little, relatable ideas with large, abstract ideas that are beyond the realm of human awareness.
Black holes and frogs are an intriguing contrast!
3. Explain how creativity can benefit individuals in fields beyond art and design, providing at least two
examples.
- Being creative releases mental blocks that make it easier for someone to learn new things. It improves
the effectiveness of learning processing.
- It unlocks the doors to our minds and hearts. It opens doors to our innermost selves. It makes identity
and uniqueness recognized. It can assist in bringing out the best in previously existing qualities and inner
potential. It enables us to pursue our passions.
4. Choose a famous work of art, literature, or technological advancement and analyze how creativity,
imagination, and expression are interconnected in its creation.
 Ophelia by Sir John Everett Millais
- In what is arguably one of the most well-known literary-inspired artworks,
Millais vividly depicts the Bard's captivating heroine Ophelia from
"Hamlet," concentrating on the final moments before her untimely
drowning death. Although it is today considered a masterpiece, when it
was first shown at the Royal Academy, it was met with conflicting
reactions. It is now highly praised for its portrayal of beauty and the
natural world. In Millais' reworking, Shakespeare's depiction of Ophelia's
garland in the play is referenced as Ophelia is positioned in the Danish River, floating down to her
imminent death while surrounded by flowers. Ophelia is shown with her hands extended and her head
tilted slightly upward, resembling the classic representation of saints and other holy beings. A lone red
poppy symbolizes death and slumber.
