Manufacturing System

Manufacturing System Classification:

1. production type
• Make to Stock (MTS)
• Assemble to Order (ATO)
• Make to Order (MTO)
• Engineering to Order (ETO)
2. production volume
• Mass production
➢ The rate and level of production in mass production are generally high,
➢ The demand for the products produced is high,
➢ Equipment generally has a special function,
➢ Labor expertise is not very high as a result of the special function of the
equipment.
• Batch production
➢ Production lot size is medium,
➢ Purpose: to meet consumer needs for products that are needed continuously,
➢ Equipment generally has a common function but is designed for high production
rates.
• Job shop production
➢ low production rate,
➢ Equipment has a common function,
➢ The skills required by the workforce are quite high,
➢ Usually made to order.
3. Production flow
• Fixed Site ( Project )
• Job Shop ( Jumbled Flow )
• Flow Shop
➢ Small-Batch Line Flow , has all character flow shop , but No all process the same
product in a manner Keep going continuously . processing a number of product
with small batch size , with setup requirements per batch. Used when process
costs _ considered , part demand is low , and non- discrete . For example is
pharmacy .
➢ Large-Batch ( Repetitive ) Line Flow , producing discrete products in large
volumes but not continuously.
➢ Continuous Line Flow refer to a continuous process from fluids , powders ,
metals , etc. Normal used in the sugar, oil and metal industries other .
4. Layout _ _
• Fixed position layouts
• Processlayout
• Product flow layouts

Production System :
• Flow shop : order every permanent job ( mass production )
• job shop : the order of each job changes
• Batch production : combination between job shop and flow shop ( variety & amount
height )

Focus Opportunity Repair in System Manufacture

• Time on machine :
• Setup : SMED ( single minute exchange of die )
• Process : Automation , work methods
• moving : Plant layout , MH equipment
• waiting : Scheduling ( Scheduling )
• Aspect Strategic Planning /Decisions :
• Election System Manufacturing : FS, JS, BP
• Product & Process designs ( incl make or buy decisions ) and plant layout
design
• Aspect Planning & Control : Production planning & control
• Aspect operational ( management )

Manufacturing System Performance :

• Efficiency , material handling costs , inventory costs , production costs , total costs
• Manufacturing lead time , flow time, makespan , tardiness
• Idle time , utilization , line balancing, makespan
• due dates
• Productivity
• Quality
• Profit
• Customer satisfaction vs. production cost
• due date vs. min flow time
