Roots of Self-Awareness and Healing

Introduction
During the session, I was invited to reflect whether I am on God’s page or on the wrong page. If I
am focused on myself and pursuing power, being served, wanting to be first and going after great
things on my own, I am not on God’s page.
God is the right page
God is the right page. I must be with God. Sin leads me away from God. True self-awareness is
necessary. I need to listen to the voice of God speaking through people, events and other means.
This realization made me return to regular spiritual direction. There is that idea that spiritual
direction stops after seminary formation. Now, I realize that it is indispensable for me so I have
been seeing my spiritual director for two years already.
Authentic Humility is the assurance that a person is on the page of God. A person who is humble
is a loving person who is willing “to wash the feet” of his fellowmen and ready to be last.
Humility is to follow our Lord who came to serve and not to be served.
Repentance is a challenge because the sense of sin is not so much present. Many people do not
see sin in what they do. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament that is not so popular
now. God is inviting us to be detached from sin in order to be attached to Him. We cannot do this
on our own. We need God.
Conclusion
We need real healing and this is ongoing. The Church is composed of saints and sinners. It is
God who repairs the image of men and women broken by sin. This is ongoing and lifelong action
of God. Pope Francis said that God places his hope not in the great and powerful but to the small
and humble. We must remain small and humble so that we can cooperate with God’s saving plan.
