The United States Supreme Court case of Brown v. Board of Education (1954) declared racial
segregation in public schools unconstitutional. The Court's decision established the function of
law in promoting equality and ensuring equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment of the
Constitution. It marked a significant milestone in the civil rights movement and set a precedent
for desegregation in the United States.
