Referring to Figures 4 and 5, the brilliant display 1000 may include a base 1100, pins 1200, coil 1280,
casing 1300, substrate 1400, spring 1440, touch sensor 1460, and temperature sensor 1500.
[0056] The base 1100 may be provided in a plate-like form. Specifically, the base 1100 may comprise a top
surface and a bottom surface, which are a pair of main surfaces facing each other, and sides
connecting them. In one example, the brill display 1000 may be provided in the form of a rectangular
plate having a top surface, a bottom surface, and four sides.

That is, the through-hole 1120 may be formed in the form of a perforation from the top surface of
the base 1100 to the bottom surface. For example, the through-hole 1120 may be formed in the
form of a cylindrical column with a centerline in the vertical direction. Of course, the shape of the
through-hole 1120 may be suitably altered to take the form of a polygonal or elliptical column, as
desired. Each of these through holes 1120 may receive a pin 1200, which will be described later.
[0057]
T h e t h r o u g h - h o l e s 1120 can be arranged in any suitable arrangement according to a
predetermined arrangement on the base 1100. Since six braille elements, two horizontal rows and three
vertical rows, are typically required to represent a single braille character, the t h r o u g h - h o l e s
1120 may be formed such that two horizontal rows and three vertical rows form a group of t h r o u g h -
h o l e s 1120. In this case, the horizontal and vertical spacing of the through holes 1120 may be set to a
distance that is suitable for braille reading. In order for the brain display 1000 to represent multiple
characters simultaneously, the brain display 1000 may be arranged with multiple groups of through-
holes 1120. The spacing between each group of t h r o u g h - h o l e s 1120 may be greater than the
[0058] spacing between the t h r o u g h - h o l e s 1120 belonging to a single group of through-holes 1120 to
facilitate distinguishing between braille characters when the user is reading braille. For example, to
display time in hours and minutes, the base 1100 may be provided with four groups of t h r o u g h -
h o l e s 1120 to represent four characters.
[0059] Of course, the arrangement of the t h r o u g h - h o l e s 1120 is not limited to the examples described
above. If the braille display 1000 wishes to display symbols such as maps or arrows in braille, the
t h r o u g h - h o l e s 1120 can be arranged accordingly.

The pins 1200 may be inserted into the through holes 1120 of the base 1100. Such a pin 1200 may be
provided to rise up and down in the through-hole 1120. When the pin 1200 is raised so that its top
protrudes out of the through hole 1120, i.e., onto the top surface of the base 1100, it can be
[0060] described as "protruding" in Braille. Additionally, if the
pin 1200 is lowered so that the pin 1200 is retracted into the through hole 1120, i.e., does not
protrude onto the top surface of the base 1100, the braille format "no protrusion" can be
represented. Thus, the braille display 1000 can display braille by adjusting the elevation of these
pins 1200.
[0061]

The pin 1200 may include a body 1220 and a protrusion 1240. The body 1220 includes a coil 1280,
which will be described later, wound around the body 1220 so that when a current is applied to the
coil 1280, it acts as an electromagnet to interact with the magnetic pole of the base 1100 to elevate
the pin 1200. Thus, the body 1220 is preferably made of a metallic material. In addition, the
protrusions 1240 may protrude from the top of the base 1100 in response to the elevation of the
pins 1200 to represent "protrusions" in Braille.
[0062]
The body 1220 is arranged in the form of a vertically oriented column, and the protrusion 1240 may
extend upwardly from a top surface of the body 1220. Here, the body 1220 may be provided in the shape
of a column (e.g. , a circular column) having a diameter substantially equal to or slightly smaller than
the through-hole 1120 and larger than the opening 1320 formed in the casing 1300 to be described later.
The protrusion 1240 can also be provided in the form of a column (again, a circular column) with a
smaller diameter than the body 1220 and also smaller than the opening 1320 in the casing 1300, which
[0063]
will be described later. With this configuration, when the pin 1200 is raised, the body 1220 does not
pass through the opening 1320 of the casing 1300, while the protrusion 1240 of the pin 1200 passes
through the opening 1320, allowing the top of the pin 1200 to stably protrude above the top of the base
1100.

[0064] The body 1220 may also be provided with coil g r o o v e s 1260. The coil g r o o v e 1260 may be formed
as a recess from the body 1220. A coil 1280 may be wound into these coil g r o o v e s 1260 to allow the
coil 1280 to be installed on the body 1220. Additionally, as the coil grooves 1260 are recessed from the
body 1220, jaws may be formed at the top and bottom of the coil grooves 1260 to hold the c o i l s 1280
wound in the coil grooves 1260. As will be described later, the length of the coil g r o o v e 1260 in the
vertical direction may be less than the thickness of the base 1100 to allow for elevation of the pin 1200.

On the other hand, the protrusion 1240 may be provided with a curved top thereof. When the pin

ele The coil 1280 can be wound into the coil groove 1260 of the body 1220. The coil 1280 may be
va connected to the conductors 1420 of the substrate 1400, which will be described later, and may be
te subjected to a current. Applying current to the coil 1280 causes the body 1220 to act as an
d electromagnet, which can cause the magnetism of the base 1100 and the body 1220 as an
an electromagnet to interact, causing the pin 1200 to rise or fall. For example, when a forward current is
d applied to the coil 1280, the top of the body 1220 becomes the N pole and the bottom becomes the S pole, and
pr when a reverse current is applied to the coil 1280, the top of the body 1220 b e c o m e s t h e N pole and
otr the bottom becomes the S pole.

When current is applied, the top of the body 1220 can be S-polarized and the bottom can be N-polarized.
Of course, as a reverse example, when a f o r w a r d current is applied to the coil 1280, the top of the
body 1220 may be S pole and the bottom may be N pole, and when a reverse current is applied, the top
of the body 1220 may be N pole and the bottom may be S pole.
[0065]
In order for the coil 1280 to lift the pin 1200 in this manner, the coil 1280 may be p r o v i d e d with
a length in the vertical direction that is d i f f e r e n t f r o m t h e two ends of the base 1100.

[0066]
As described above, the fins 1200 may interact with the permanent magnets of the base 1100 and be
elevated when the coil 1280 is actuated as an electromagnet with an applied current, wherein a
t o p plate 1920 and a b o t t o m plate 1940 may be a d d e d t o the t o p and bottom s u r f a c e s of the
[0067] base 1100, respectively, to enhance this interaction.

[0068] Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view of an electronic device 100 according to an embodiment of the
present invention.

These top plate 1920 and bottom plate 1940 are attached to the top and bottom surfaces of the base 1100,
respectively, to focus the magnetic force lines generated by the coil as it is positioned above and below
the magnet, allowing the pin 1200 to be lifted more smoothly. Of course, the top plate 1920 and bottom
plate 1940 may each be perforated with holes corresponding to the through holes 1120.
[0069]

The substrate 1400 may be provided in the form of a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB). The
s u b s t r a t e 1400 in the form of an FPCB may be disposed on the lower portion of the base 1100. On
[0070]
such a board 1400, conductors 1420, switching circuitry 1430, and springs 1440 may be installed.

The conductor 1420 may be electrically connected to the coil 1280 to apply a current to the coil
1280. When current is applied to the coil 1280, the pin 1200 on which the coil 1280 is wound may be
lifted. The conductor 1420 may receive power from a battery (not shown) or an external power
source and deliver it to the coil 1280. On the other hand, the conductor 1420 may be provided at a
[0071] length with sufficient slack so that the conductor 1420 does not interfere with the movement of the
pin 1200 when current is applied to the coil 1280 to lift the pin 1200.

The switching circuitry 1430 can coordinate the connection and shorting of the conductor 1420,
[0072] that is, the switching circuitry 1430 can interrupt the conductor 1420 to adjust the current
application to the coil 1280. When the conductor 1420 is interrupted under the control of the
switching circuitry 1430, the current application to the coil 1280 is determined to allow the braille
to display the desired braille to be represented based on the elevation of the pin 1200.

A spring 1440 may be installed on the substrate 1400 and connected to a bottom portion of the body
1220 of the pin 1200. This spring 1440 may allow the pin 1200 to be retracted into the interior of the
base 1100 when no external force is acting on the pin 1200. In this state, when a current is applied
[0073] to the coil 1280, the pin 1200 can overcome the elastic force of the spring 1440 and rise, causing the
top of the pin 1200 to protrude into the top surface of the base 1100. Further, when the current
supply to the coil 1280 is terminated while the top of the pin 1200 is protruding, the pin 1200 may
be retracted back into the interior of the base 1100 by the elastic force of the spring 1440.

The touch sensor 1460 can detect a user's touch input to the pin 1200 that protrudes upwardly from
[0074] the base 1100, i.e., the pin 1200 is raised to indicate "raised. In one
example, the touch sensor 1460 can detect whether the pin 1200 is touched based on the vertical
position of the pin 1200. Such a touch sensor 1460 may be a distance sensor that is installed on a
top surface of the substrate 140 0 to detect the distance to the bottom surface of the pin 1200, as
shown in Figures 4 and 5. A representative example of such a touch sensor 1460 may be an infrared
sensor, and the touch sensor 1460 may b e made of various other mechanical or electronic sensors.

Specifically, the touch sensor 1460 can detect the position of the pin 1200 in the vertical direction.
The pin 1200 can move between a position where it is retracted into the interior of the base
1100 by the spring 1440, indicating "no protrusion" (hereinafter referred to as
the "off position"), and a position where current is applied to the coil 128 0 such that the

to the "on position"). When the pin 1200 in the on position is depressed by a user, the pin 1200 may be
p positioned in a position that is lower than the on position (hereinafter referred to as
of the "touch position") while still maintaining the top of the pin 1200 protruding from the
th top of the base 1100 due to pressure from the user's finger. The touch sensor 1460 senses this
e position of the pin 1200 and detects whether the pin 1200 is in the on position, the off position, or
pi the touch position.

can do. Accordingly, the touch sensor 1460 can detect whether the pin 1200 in the position on which
the touch sensor 1460 is located has been touched, i.e., struck, by a user.

[0075] The casing 1300 may house the base 1100 therein. Such a casing 1300 may be l i n e d w i t h a n
externally impact-resistant material to p r o t e c t the base 1 1 0 0 a n d t h e like that is h o u s e d
therei n .
[0076]
An opening 1320 may be provided in one side of the casing 1300 that faces the top surface of the base
1100. Such an o p e n i n g 1320 may be formed at a location corresponding to the through-hole 1120.
The aperture 1320 m a y b e p r o v i d e d w i t h a smaller diameter than the through-hole 1120.
T h e a p e r t u r e 1320 may also be provided with a smaller diameter than the body 1220 of the pin
1200 and a larger diameter than the protrusion 1240 of the pin 1200, as described above in the
d e s c r i p t i o n o f t h e pin 1200. Accordingly, upon elevation of the pin 1200, the opening 1320 may
[0077] p r e v e n t t h e entirety of the p i n 1200 f r o m protruding outside of the base 1100 and a l l o w
o n l y t h e p r o t r u s i o n 1240 to p a s s through, allowing only the t o p of the pin 120 0 t o
protrude a b o v e the top o f t h e base 1100.

[0078] Additionally, the opening 1320 of the casing 1300 may be provided with a fin cover 1340. For
example, the fin cover 1340 may be attached to the casing 1300 to cover the periphery of the
[0079] opening 1320. Accordingly, the fin cover 1340 can cover the opening 1320 to prevent debris from
entering the interior of the base 1100.

Figure 7 is an enlarged view of fin cover 1340 according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 7, the cover may be provided with a resilient material that has sufficient elasticity
so that the protrusion 1240 does not interfere with the projection of the pin 1200 onto the top
[0080] surface of the base 1100 upon elevation of the pin 1200. Additionally, the fin cover 1340 may be
provided with certain shaped grooves or corrugations, such as those shown in (b) of FIG. 7, to
[0081] allow it to flexibly deform with the elevation of the fin 1200. For example, the underside of the fin
cover 1340 may be provided with grooves as shown in (a) of Figure 7 to facilitate the center portion
of the fin cover 1340 to stretch upward as the pin 1200 is raised.

While the fin cover 1340 has been described above as being installed over each of the openings 1320, it
is also possible that the fin cover 1340 is p r o v i d e d a s a single s h e e t of flexible material and is
arranged to c o v e r t h e entire casing 1 3 0 0 .

Such a casing 1300 may fluidly separate its interior space from the exterior. Thus, as the fins 1200 rise,
[0082] the volume of the interior space may increase as the fin lid 1340 rises. The increased volume of the
interior space may allow air to be drawn into the interior from the outside via the inlet 1360a, which
will be described later. Conversely, as the fin 1200 descends, the volume of the internal space may
decrease as the fin cover 1340 descends by its own elasticity. As the volume of the interior space
decreases, air may be expelled from the interior to the exterior via the vent 1360b, which will be
[0083]
described later.
[0084]

In one aspect, the casing 1300 may have v e n t s 1360 formed in the casing 1300. The vents 1360 are
openings for air to enter and exit the interior space of the casing 1300 and the exterior. For example, as
shown in Figures 4 and 5, the v e n t s 1360 may include an inlet 1360a for air from the outside to enter
the interior space of the casing 1300 and an o u t l e t 1360b for air to exit the interior space of the
[0085] casing 1300 to the outside.

[0086] Figure 8 is an enlarged view of vent 1380 according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Specifically, the vents 1360 may be p r o v i d e d i n t h e form of a plurality of p e r f o r a t i o n s

[0087] p e r f o r a t e d o n e a c h side of t h e casing 1360, as shown in Figure 8. Preferably, the vents are
sized to allow air to enter and exit while preventing debris from entering and exiting. Although not
shown, it is contemplated that the vents 1360 may be equipped with a filter (not shown) to prevent the
entry of foreign matter such as dust. In particular, such a filter may be selectively attached to only the
inlet 1360a of the vents 1360.

On the other hand, the vents 1360 may be equipped with a valve 1380 to allow air flow in one direction only.

from entering, while allowing air t o escape from the interior.

[0088] Such a casing 1300 may be provided with an interior space. The c a s i n g 1300 may be spaced apart
from either the top surface or the bottom surface of the base 1100, such that both the interior space of
the casing 1300 and the vents 1360 are fluidly connected. For example, as shown in Figure 4, if the
underside of the base 1100 is in contact with the casing 1300 and the top surface of the base 1100 is
spaced apart from the casing 1300 by a predetermined distance, the inlet 1360a, the top of the through-
hole 1120, and the outlet 1360b may be fluidly connected to each other. Of course, contrary to Figure 4,
if the top surface of the base 1100 is in contact with the casing 1300 and the bottom surface of the base
1100 is spaced apart from the casing 1300 by a predetermined distance, the inlet 1360a, the bottom of
the t h r o u g h - h o l e 1120, and the o u t l e t 1360b may be fluidly connected to each other. Here, a
spacer (n o t shown) may be i n t e r p o s e d therebetween to provide spacing between the top or
[0089] bottom surface of the base 1100 and the casing 1300.

Because the interior space of such casing 1300 is physically separated from the exterior space
except for vent 1360 (the opening 1320 is blocked by fin cover 1340), its volume may change as fins
[0090] 1200 rise or fall.

Specifically, if the top surface of the base 1100 is spaced apart from the casing 1100, as shown in FIG. 3,
then when the fins 1200 are raised, the internal volume increases as the fin cover 1340 is raised, and
when the fins 1200 are lowered, the internal volume decreases as the fin cover 1340 is lowered. This is
true even if the underside of the base 1100 is spaced apart from the casing 1100. This change in volume
can drive air in and out of the vent 1360, i.e., a decrease in volume can cause air to flow into the interior
space t h r o u g h t h e i n l e t 1380a, and an increase in volume can cause air to flow out of the interior
space through the outlet 1380b. Thus, as a result, when the fins 1360 perform a lifting motion, air can
be drawn in and out, allowing hot air from the interior to be exhausted to the exterior, and cold air
from the exterior to be drawn in for heat dissipation.
[0091]

The temperature sensor 1500 may be attached to and installed on an inner surface of the casing
1300. The temperature sensor 1500 may sense a temperature inside the casing 1300. The
temperature detected by the temperature sensor 1500 is sent to the control module 1600, which
[0092] will be described later, and the control module 1600 may perform heat dissipation based on
whether the temperature is high or low.

[0093] The control module 1600, communication module 1700, and memory 1800 may be installed in the
brilliant display 1000, as will be described later, or may be provided separately from the brilliant
display 1000.

[0094]
The control module 1600 may be implemented in hardware form, such as electronic circuits or
electronic chips that process, compute, and store various information, in software form, such as
various programs or applications that run thereon, or in any combination thereof.

Such control module 1600 may control switching circuitry 1430 to raise pin 1200 to display braille,
depending on the braille to be represented. Specifically, the control module 1600 may convert
[0095] textual information to Braille, determine the respective "with
protrusions" and "without protrusions" Braille formats to represent the
converted Braille, and send control signals to the switching circuitry 1430 accordingly to cause the
switching circuitry 1430 to interrupt the conductors 1420 to adjust the raising of the pins 1200 by
applying or not applying current in the forward or reverse direction to the coils 1280 installed on
[0096] the pins 1200 corresponding to the respective Braille formats to display Braille.

Here, textual information may include time information, text messages, geographic information,
etc. Of course, textual information should also be interpreted as an umbrella term that includes all
other forms of information that can be represented in Braille, i.e., textual information can include
numbers, alphabets, or characters such as hiragana or hangeul, as well as various other symbols
or pictures.

1200 are r a i s e d to display Braille, only half of the pins 1200 are raised by chance, and the rest are
lowered, so that even if the Braille being displayed changes, the actual change in the volume of the
internal space may be small, which may not result in high heat dissipation efficiency. In the heat
dissipation mode, all the fins 1200 are raised and lowered simultaneously to maximize the internal
volume change, which can accelerate heat dissipation.
[0098]

The communication module 1700 can communicate with an external device. In other words, the
communication module 1700 may receive information from the external device or may send
information to the external device. Here, the information received may be textual information. The
communication module 1700 may provide the textual information to the control module 1600 when it is
received. As a specific example, the communication module 1700 may receive a text message over a cell
network and provide it to the control module 1600 as text information. The communication module
[0099]
1700 may perform wireless communications, such as 3G or 4G cell tower communications, short-range
communications such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Zigbee, GPS communications to receive GPS signals, or
visible light communications. In s o m e cases, the communication module 1700 may also perform
wired communication over a wired LAN or via Thunderbird or USB.

The memory 1800 can store various information. Such memory 1800 may store textual information. The
[0100] text information may correspond to ebooks, emails, various document files, etc. The control module
1600 can load the memorized text information into the memory 1800 for braille display. The memory
1800 may be p r o v i d e d as a medium for s t o r i n g information in various forms, such as RAM,
[0101] R O M , o r flash memory.

Hereinafter, the lifting behavior of the pin 1200 in the brain display 1000 according to an embodiment
of the present invention will be described.

As described above, the braille display 1000 utilizes the elevation of a pin 1200 to display braille,
[0102] wherein the pin 1200 can be moved between an on position, wherein its top protrudes above the top
of the base 1100 and is characterized as "protruding" in braille format, and an
[0103]
off position, wherein its entirety is lowered to be received in the through hole 1120 and is
characterized as "not protruding" in braille format.
[0104]

Figure 11 is a drawing of a pin 1200 in the off position, according to an embodiment of the present
invention.

Referring to FIG. 11, the pin 1200 may be disposed in the off position. Accordingly, the pin
1200 may display a "no protrusion" indication.

W h e n n o current is applied to the coil 1280, t h e pin 1200 i s not subject to any external force from
the m a g n e t in the base 1100, and in this state, only the e l a s t i c force of the spring 1440 a c t s o n
t h e pin 1200. T h e r e f o r e , the spring 1440 can be designed so that all of the pin 1200 is received in
the through hole 1120 w i t h no elastic deformation, so that when no current is applied to the coil 1280,
[0105]
the pin 1200 is in an off position where it does not protrude outside of the base 1100. Optionally, the
[0106] spring 1440 can be omitted from the brilliant display 1000 and the pin 1200 can be retracted into the
through hole 1120 by the magnetic force of the pin 1200 to be in the off position when no current is
applied to the coil 1280. Alternatively, it is possible to omit the spring 1440 and still allow the pin 1200 to
[0107]
be positioned in the off position when no current is applied to the coil 1280 due to the resilience of the
substrate 1400 provided as a flexible material or the resilience of the conductors 1420.

Figure 12 is a drawing of a pin 1200 in the on position, according to an embodiment of the present
invention.

The directional current can cause the top of the body 1220 of the pin 1200 to be S-polarized and the
bottom to be N-polarized. Similarly, if the top 1102 of the base 1100 is S-polarized and the bottom
1104 is N-polarized, the forward current can cause the top of the body 1220 of the pin 1200 to be N-
polarized and the bottom to be S-polarized. When forward current is applied in this manner, the
upper portion of the coil groove 1260 receives an attraction from the upper portion 1102 of the base
1100 and a repulsion from the lower portion 1104 of the base 1100. Similarly, the lower portion of
the coil groove 1260 receives an attraction from the lower portion 1104 of the base 1100 and a
pretension force from the upper portion 1102 of the base 1100. This causes the pin 1200 to move in
a vertical direction such that the center of the coil groove 1260 is on the same line as the center of
[0108]
the base 1100. Of course, the current applied to the pin 1200 at this time must be of sufficient
magnitude to overcome the elastic force of the spring 1440 and move the pin 1200.

Here, the coil 1280 and the coil groove 1260 of the body 1220 around which the coil 1280 is wound
have a length in the vertical direction that is shorter than the thickness of the base 1100, and in the
off position, the center of the coil groove 1260 in the vertical direction is lower than the center of
the base 1100, so that when a forward current is applied to the coil 1280, the pin 1200 rises until the
center of the coil groove 1260 in the vertical direction and the center of the base 1100 are at the
[0109] same height. As the pin 1200 rises in this manner, a protrusion 1240 extending from the top surface
of the body 1220 of the pin 1200 passes through the opening 1320 and protrudes into the top of the
base 1100, marking the protrusion in Braille. When the pin 1200 is raised in this manner, the
resilient pin cover 1340 can be elastically deformed by the pin 120 0.

In this case, the opening 1320 is drilled to a smaller size than the body 1220, so that even if a large
current is applied and causes the pin 1200 to rise at an excessive rate, the body 1220 of the pin 1200
may not pass through the opening 1320, thereby preventing the pin 1200 from being dislodged
[0110] from the through hole 1120. Of course, the spring 1440 installed on the underside of the pin 1200,
the pin cover 1340 covering the opening 1320, and the conductors 1420 connected to the coil 1280
and the flexible printed circuit board 1400 connected thereto also p e r f o r m some function in
preventing the pin 1200 from dislodging.

In this way, cutting off the current in coil 1280 with respect to pin 1200 in the on position causes
pin 1200 to be moved to the off position by the elastic force of spring 1440, again as shown in FIG.
11. If desired, it is also possible to apply a current to coil 1280 in the opposite direction of the
forward direction (hereinafter referred to as "reverse") t o cause pin
1200 to descend at a faster rate, instead of simply cutting off the current in coil 1280. When a
reverse current is applied, the upper portion of the coil groove 1260 receives a pretension force
from the upper portion 1102 of the base 1100 and an attraction force from the lower portion 1104 of
[0111] the base 1100, The lower portion of the coil groove 1260 receives a pretension force from the lower
portion 1104 of the base 1100 and an attraction force from the upper portion 1102 of the base 1100,
causing the pin 1200 to move in a direction away from its on position, which may be caused to
descend rather than rise by the elastic force of the spring 1440. When utilizing this reverse current
to lower the pin 1200, the reverse current can be applied continuously while the pin 1200 is moving
to the off position, or it can be applied for a short period of time at a time.

[0112]
However, it has been described above that the base 1100 is provided with a magnet, a coil 1280 is
wound around the pin 1200, and the body 1220 of the pin 1200 acts as an electromagnet to cause
the pin 1200 to rise and fall depending on the current applied to the coil 1280, However, it is also
possible that the coil 1280 is installed on the base 1100, and the pin 1200 is provided as a magnet to
[0113] control the rising and falling of the pin 1200 depending on whether a current is applied to the coil
1280 installed on the base 1100 and the direction of the applied current.
[0114]

Alternatively, the pin 1200, once moved to the on position as described above, may be designed to
remain in the on position in the absence of any external force. Specifically, the pin 1200 may be
provided with a cam-like structure to engage the pin 1200 in the on position. In this case, the pin
1200 may be arranged to be immobile under a certain amount of external force and only lower
when a certain amount of external force is applied.

You may need to apply current.

[0115] T h e following describes an operation for detecting a user's touch input to a pin 1200 on a brain
display 1000 according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0116] Figure 14 is a diagram illustrating a pin 1200 in a touch position, according to an embodiment of the
present invention.
[0117]
Again, as shown in FIG. 14, when the pin 1200 is positioned
in the on position to represent "protruding," the user may t o u c h it with
the fingertip of the hand to t a c t i l e l y t r a c e t h e braille f o r m a t i n t h e "protruding" state.
In doing so, as shown in FIG. 14, the user's finger applies pressure to the pin 1200 protruding from
the top of the base 1100, causing the pin 1200 to descend a predetermined distance from its on
position. Hereinafter, the position at which the on position pin 1200 is lowered by a certain
distance by the user's touch will be referred to as the "touch position". In this case, it is
desirable that the pin 1200 still expresses a "protrusion"
even if the pin 1200 is partially lowered in the process of being
touched by the user, and it is generally possible that by appropriately adjusting the magnitude of
the forward current applied to the coil 1280 to raise the pin 1200 in consideration of the pressure
with which the user touches the pin 1200, it is possible that even if the pin 1200 disposed in the on
position is touched, its top still protrudes to the top of the base 1100, indicating a "protrusion," and
[0118] yet it is lowered by a predetermined distance from the on position. Accordingly, it may be
desirable to have the touch position be lower than the on position, but at a position where the top
of the pin 1200 remains protruding from the top of the base 1100.

[0119]

In this way, when the pin 1200 is lowered from its on position by the user's touch pressure, the
touch sensor 1460 can detect this. Here, the touch sensor 1460 is installed on the substrate 1400 to
measure the distance to the bottom of the pin 1200, i.e., the vertical position within the height of
[0120] the pin 1200, and can detect a touch on the pin 1200 based on this.

Specifically, the touch sensor 1460 can detect a touch based on whether the vertical position of the pin
1200 is less than the distance to the on position and greater than the distance to the off position. In
other words, the touch sensor 1460 has a set touch position between the on position and the off position,
and the touch sensor 1460 can detect a touch based on whether the measured distance falls within the
range of the touch position.

Alternatively, the touch sensor 1460 may detect a touch based solely on whether the vertical
[0121] position of the pin 1200 is less than the distance to the on position. Since the user's touch on the
[0122] pin 1200 is only on the part of the pin 1200 that protrudes above the base 1100 to represent the
"protrusion," the touch sensor 1460 can detect a touch when the pin
1200 that has been raised to the on position is lowered. In other words, the touch sensor 1460 can
detect a touch based on whether the vertical position of the pin 1200 is less than the on position for
a p i n 1 2 0 0 that has had current applied to the coil 1280 to move to the on position.
[0123]

Figure 15 is a diagram illustrating the height-specific state of the pin 1200 according to an embodiment of
the present invention.

[0124] Referring to FIG. 15, first, the pin 1200 may be placed in the off position by magnetic force and the
elastic force of the spring 1440 when no current is applied. The pin 1200 may be positioned in this off
position when the brain display 1000 is in a non-moving state, or "no protrusion" in Braille
format. In such a state, the control module 1600 may know that a pin 1200 is in the off position based
on the interruption of the conductor 1420 connected to the coil 1280 of that pin 1200.

When current is applied to the pin 1200, the pin 1200 may be disposed to rise and move to an on
position where its top protrudes from the base 1100 to represent "turning".
In this state, the control module 1600 can know that the pin 1200 is in the on position based on
whether the conductor 1420 connected to the coil 1280 of that pin 1200 is connected, and whether

a n 1200 to the touch position. In FIG. 15, the touch position is illustrated as a constant height, but the
for touch position can also be defined as a constant range. The control module 1600 may determine
wa whether a touch has occurred based on the measurement results of the touch sensor 1460. Specifically,
rd the control module 1600 may determine that there is a touch on the corresponding pin 1200 if the
cu distance measured by the touch sensor 1460 is in a range corresponding to the touch position.
rr Alternatively, the control module 1600 may consider the measurement results from the touch sensor
en 1460 and the interruption state of the switching circuitry 1430 together to determine whether a touch is
t is present. In this case, the control module 1600 may determine that the

Whether the pin 1200 has risen to the on position may first be d e t e r m i n e d based on the
interruption state of the switching circuit 1430, and if the distance detected by the touch sensor 1460 for
the risen pin 120 0 is different (smaller) than the distance to the on position, it may be determined that
a touch input is present.
[0125]
Upon receiving touch input, the pin 1200 can be lowered to display the next braille character, and
when the switching circuit 1430 shuts off the current to the coil 1280, the pin 1200 is lowered to the
off position. At this time, it may be possible to temporarily apply reverse current to coil 1280 for a
faster descent.
[0126]

While the touch sensor 1460 has been described above as utilizing the vertical position of the pin 1200
to detect touch, the touch sensor 1460 can detect touch in a variety of other ways. For example, it is
possible to place a tactile touch sensor 1460 at a certain height in the through hole 1120 that only
engages when t h e pin 1200 is in the touch position, or to utilize a change in capacitance or resistance
value that occurs when a finger is touched to detect touch.
[0127]

[0128]
The following describes a method of heat dissipation according to one embodiment of the present
invention.

[0129] FIG. 16 is a flowchart of a heat dissipation method according to one embodiment of the present
invention, FIG. 17 is a diagram illustrating an air inflow operation of an electronic device 100 according
to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 18 is a diagram illustrating an air exhaust
[0130] operation of an electronic device 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 16, the heat dissipation method may include a step S110 in which the fin 1200
[0131] rises, a step S120 in which air is introduced, a s t e p S130 in which the fin 1200 falls, and a step S140
in which air is expelled.

First, as shown in Figures 17 and 18, casing 1300 may f o r m an interior space t h a t i s f l u i d l y
connected to i n l e t 1360a, t h r o u g h - h o l e 1120, and outlet 1360b.
[0132] At this time, w h e n t h e pin 1300 is raised from the off position to the on position (S110), the
v o l u m e o f the internal space i n c r e a s e s , as shown in FIG. 17. As the volume of the internal space
increases, there is a pressure for air to enter the internal space from the outside, and the outlet 1360b is
closed by the valve 1380 thereof, allowing air to enter the internal space through the inlet 1360a (S120).
[0133]
In this state, and referring to FIG. 18, when the pin 1300 is lowered from the on position to the off
position (S130), the volume of the internal space is reduced. With the reduced volume of the internal
space, there is a pressure to expel air from the interior to the exterior, and the inlet 1360a is closed by
[0134] its valve 1380 so that air c a n b e expelled to the exterior through the outlet 1360b (S140).

Thus, the repeated rising and falling of the fins 1200 results in continuous air circulation inside and
outside the casing 1300, w h i c h d i s s i p a t e s heat generated by t h e coil 1280 to the outside f o r
heat d i s s i p a t i o n .

[0135]
While the above description describes the casing 1300 as spaced apart from the top surface of the
base 1100 such that the through-hole 1120 is connected to the vent 1360 through the top surface, it
is also possible that the bottom surface of the base 1100 is spaced apart such that the bottom of the
through-hole 1120 is fluidly connected to the vent 1360, in which case the lifting of the fins 1200
may cause a similar action to the example described above, resulting in heat dissipation. That is,
as the fins 1200 descend, air will be expelled, and as the fins 1200 rise, air will be drawn in.

However, it may be desirable for the interior space to be fluidly connected through the lower portion of
the t h r o u g h - h o l e 1120 as much as possible, as it is p o s s i b l e f o r t h e body 1220 of the pin
1200 to cause localized fluid c l o u d i n g d u e t o t h e action of the body 1220 of the pin 1200
pushing air inside the through-hole 1120 as the pin 1200 rises and falls.

invention.
[0137] FIG. 18 is a flowchart of a heat dissipation method according to another embodiment of the present
invention.
[0138] Referring to FIG. 18, the heat dissipation method includes the steps of detecting a temperature (S210),
selecting a heat dissipation m o d e according to the temperature (S 2 2 0 ) , a n d
T h e steps may include performing a normal m o d e (S 2 3 0 ) or performing a high t e m p e r a t u r e mode
(S240).

Registered Patent

[0139] First, the temperature sensor 1500 may sense the temperature inside the casing 1300 (S210). The
temperature sensor 1500 transmits the detected temperature to the control module 1600.

[0140] The control module 1600 may select a heat dissipation mode S220 based on the detected temperature.
Specifically, the control module 1600 may perform heat d i s s i p a t i o n in normal m o d e if the
detected temperature is below a preset threshold, indicating that the electronic device 100 does not yet
have an overheating problem, and perform heat d i s s i p a t i o n i n high t e m p e r a t u r e m o d e if
the detected temperature is above a preset threshold, indicating that the electronic device 100 does
have an o v e r h e a t i n g problem.

[0141]

[0142] In normal mode, t h e control module 1600 raises pin 1200 (S230) to indicate the Braille character to be
represented.

Specifically, the operation of the pin 1200 displaying Braille may be a c c o m p l i s h e d by the
[0143] control module 1600 acquiring text information, converting the acquired text information to
Braille, and e l e v a t i n g the pin 1200 to which the Braille element is assigned according to the
Braille format, taking into account the Braille element and the Braille format for each Braille
element.

[0144] Here, the textual information may be received from an external device via the communication
module 1700 or stored in the memory 1800. Alternatively, the text information may be generated
by the control module 1600, such as visual information. Braille conversion may also be
performed on a character-by-character basis for each text character, and may be converted to
a combination of "with protrusions" and "without protrusions" in
accordance with Braille conventions.
[0145] The display of braille may also be a c c o m p l i s h e d by the control module 1600 raising the pin
1200 according to the braille that the control module 1600 wishes to represent among the
converted braille. The control module 1600 can display the braille by interrupting the switching
circuitry 1430 to apply a forward current to the coil 1280 wound on the pin 120 0 corresponding to
the "protrusion" to raise the pin 1200, while applying no current to the coil 1280 wound on
the pin 1200 corresponding to the "no protrusion" or applying a
[0146] reverse current to prevent the pin 1200 from being raised.

As such, even when the pins 1200 are raised to display Braille, the number of
"raised" forms of Braille displayed first and the number of "raised" forms of Braille
displayed next are constantly changing in response to the Braille display, resulting in a
constant change in internal volume over time, which allows air to flow in and out and basic heat
dissipation to occur.
[0147]

However, in displaying the braille, the previous and next braille may not be in the optimal order
for heat dissipation, but rather are determined to adequately display the information desired to be
provided to the user, and thus the change in braille format may not be sufficiently large. For
[0148] example, when displaying four characters of Braille in a group of four through-holes 1120,
displaying "1-2-0- 0" first and "1-2-0-1" next may result in a very small change in the actual number
of "protrusions".

Accordingly, the control module 1600 may perform a braille indication (S240) to optimize heat
dissipation when the internal temperature is above a preset temperature. Specifically, the control
[0149] module 1600 may perform a repeated action of raising all of the pins 1200 over a number of cycles
and pressing a key on the lowering. As all of the fins 1200 rise and fall, the change in volume is
very large, allowing hot air from the interior to be quickly expelled and cold air from the exterior
to be quickly drawn in, allowing heat dissipation to occur in a very short period of time.

The repetitive behavior may last until the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 1500 falls
below a threshold, or may last for a predetermined number of seconds. In this case, the threshold may
be a temperature lower than a reference t e m p e r a t u r e t h a t i s a condition for entering the high
temperature m o d e .
