Welcome to the English 2 Self-Learning Module on Words with Short I Sound


in CVC Pattern!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by


educators from Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge
Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership
with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis
N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

RECAP

An unfamiliar word can disrupt you while reading or


listening to a story. Therefore, it is important to know the
sounds of both vowel and consonant letters.
The short i sound says “ih”. Few examples are fig, pig, Commented [va2]: example

mitt, bit, fit, bin, win and pin.

LESSON

To get started with learning how to read, you must


know the sound of each letter in the alphabet. By knowing
the sound of each letter, all you have to do next is to put
the sounds together that make up the word.
It is important to note that letters are grouped into
two: vowels and consonants. Vowel letters have
corresponding short and long sounds.
The letter i is a vowel whose short sound is sounded
as “ih”. The short I sound is used in some words with the
consonant- vowel- consonant pattern (CVC) such as wig,
dig, lit, sit, did, lid, bib and rib.
Here are more examples of words with short I in CVC
pattern.
