The Malaysia Silat Federation or PESAKA has been in existence since 1974.
The first official meeting of the Silat Grandmasters was taken place on
the 1st March 1975, at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru, Kuala
Lumpur. This was the starting point for the entire Silat community to sit
down, discuss and decide on the future of this inheritance Malay culture.
PESAKA was also formerly known as the National Silat Council before the
organization had been officially approved by the Malaysia Government on
its registration on the 24th September 1983.

the POLICY
With sincerity, justice and morally upright, of which is the core essence.
the PURPOSE
Pencak Silat as a Sports means that this Malay martial art is also
accepted as a form of sporting activities that are used for competition.
This type of sport has its own system and practice in accordance
with certain requirements and regulations that have been set and
standardized for the purpose of competition. This sport was also created
to meet the criteria and concept of sports so that its participation is
more comprehensive regardless of race, gender, religion, believes and
nationality.
12
the ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS of the Malay Silat
In Malaysia, there are about 464 types of native martial arts registered.
While in the sports context, Pencak Silat is categorized into two categories
- Match and Artistic.
In recent years, Pencak Silat and it’s culture has spreaded to many foreign
countries outside South East Asia including Holland, Germany, Italy, South
Africa, France, Japan, and others. The sport’s has since influenced many
and it is also capable of uniting people from all walks of life.

about Melaka
Melaka (also called Melaka in Bahasa Malaysia) is a wonderful city for nice
daytime activities or for a stay of more than one day. There are quite a
few hotels and hostels available, but there are also many homeowners
who are willing to put their house in Melaka up for rent. The city has many
beautiful attractions, all clearly representing the great history of the city.
From Kuala Lumpur you can easily access Melaka by bus, taxi or rental car.
Residents of the capital often travel to Melaka during weekends to have a
good rest and to enjoy the delicious food which the city is famous for.
Opposite St. Francis Xavier’s Church you will also nd a large car park where
you can park your car (secured) at the price of RM10. This is especially useful
if you travel to Melaka by car. There are many trishaw drivers in the city,
who will drive you trough the town for only a few ringgit. This used to be a
fun means of transportation, but in the last few years it has gotten a little
out of hand. The drivers started to install large sound systems onto their
trishaws and now they drive through the streets of Melaka making a lot of
noise. I cannot imagine that this is what UNESCO had in mind when they
decided to make it a World Heritage Site. A ride from Porta de Santiago to
Jonker Street for example will cost you RM 10.
history of Malacca
Historic sites in city center Melaka Melaka was founded around 1400 by a
former prince from Sumatra (who ended up in Melaka during an escape
attempt in that area). Melaka turned out to have a very good strategic
position, and not long after the foundation the influx of merchant ships
from India and China started. During that time Melaka grew into one of the
major port in South-East Asia today. In 1511 the Portuguese traders first
set foot on the Melakan soil. In 1641 the Portuguese gave up their power
struggle (and war) with the Dutch and from that time onwards Melaka was
under Dutch reign. Only a few years later, the English gained control over
the area (after the Netherlands traded this region with the English for parts
of Indonesia). The British rule lasted until 1957, when Malaysia was formed
and Melaka continued as a semi autonomous province.
