General Instructions:

Qn. SECTION - A Mark

No. Select and write the most appropriate option out of the four options given for each of the
questions 1 - 20. There is no negative mark for incorrect response.
12. In figure BC represents a body moving: 1

13. The buoyant force on a body act in a 1

a. vertically downward direction b. vertically upward direction
c. horizontal direction d. direction between the horizontal and the vertical
14. A ball is dropped from a height of 10 m. 1
a. Its potential energy increases, and b. The potential energy decreases, and the
kinetic energy decreases during the falls kinetic energy increases during the fall.
c. Its potential energy is equal to the d. The potential energy is equal to 0 and
kinetic energy during the fall. kinetic energy is maximum while it is
falling.

15. Rama takes an iron cuboid of dimensions 30 cm x 20 cm x 10 cm and mass 5kg. She places 1
it on the loose sand filled in a rectangular tray. On the basis of her observations she would
conclude that the depression obtained on the loose sand would be :
a. Maximum when it lies on its face of b. Maximum when it lies on its face of
dimensions 20 cm x 10 cm dimensions 30 cm x 10 cm
c. Maximum when it lies on its face of d. Same when it lies on any of the three
dimensions 30 cm x 20 cm faces
16. The spring will have maximum potential energy when 1
a. it is pulled out b. it is compressed
c. both (a) and (b) d. neither (a) nor (b)

20. Assertion: A light body and heavy body have same momentum. Then they also have the 1
same kinetic energy.
Reason: Kinetic energy depends on mass of the body.
SECTION – B
Question No. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions.

wave? Will it be in the audible range?
SECTION - C
Question No. 27 to 33 are short answer questions.
31. An object of mass 100 kg is accelerated uniformly from a velocity of 5 m/s to 8 m/s in 6 s. Calculate 3
the initial and final momentum of the object. Also, find the magnitude of the force exerted on the
object.
32.

SECTION - D
Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions.
36.

SECTION - E
Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts.

Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
39. Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow. 1+
Sound bounces off a solid or a liquid like a rubber ball bounces off a wall. Like light, sound 1+
gets reflected at the surface of a solid or liquid and follows the same laws of reflection. The 2
directions in which the sound is incident and is reflected make equal angles with the normal =4
to the reflecting surface at the point of incidence, and the three are in the same plane. If we
clap near a suitable reflecting object such as a tall building or a mountain, we will hear the
same sound again a little later. This sound which we hear is called an echo. The sensation of
sound persists in our brain for about 0.1 s. To hear a distinct echo the time interval between
the original sound and the reflected one must be at least 0.1s. Hence, for hearing distinct
echoes, the minimum distance of the obstacle from the source of sound must be 17.2 m. This
distance will change with the temperature of the air. Another phenomenon of reflection of
sound is reverberation. A sound created in a big hall will persist by repeated reflection from
the walls until it is reduced to a value where it is no longer audible. The repeated reflection
that results in this persistence of sound is called reverberation. Excessive reverberation is
highly undesirable.
