Total Eclipse in the Heart of Indiana: 3 Ways to Enjoy

The upcoming total solar eclipse will be visible from just 13 states, Indiana included, with Indianapolis
being right in the path of totality. However, it won’t be back over the U.S. until 2044. So, where should
you be on April 8? Don’t miss this astronomical event— here are my top three recommendations on
where to best enjoy the upcoming solar eclipse!

1. RACE MEETS SPACE: ECLIPSE EVENT PRESENTED BY PURDUE UNIVERSITY

AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is partnering with Purdue University to provide the public with a day-long
solar eclipse event! Home to the world-renowned Indy 500 race, the speedway will be holding a STEM
Symposium featuring experts from NASA, Purdue, and INDYCAR. There will be several presentations,
demonstrations, and exhibits for all ages. For more information and to purchase your tickets, visit
https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/events/eclipse/buy-tickets/tickets-gate-admission.

2. TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE ART AT NEWFIELDS

Join Newfields in watching the solar eclipse obstruction-free, with events starting at 11 A.M. See
darkness fall upon the museum while enjoying live music, fire performers, vendors and more. The
Indianapolis Museum of Art will remain open, and all tickets purchased for the eclipse event include
admission to THE LUME Indianapolis featuring Dali Alive. There are still some General Admission tickets
available, so act fast! Purchase tickets at https://discovernewfields.org/calendar/eclipse.
3. ECLIPSE VIEWING EXPERIENCE AT HOLCOMB OBSERVATORY AND
PLANETARIUM AT BUTLER UNIVERSITY

What better place to watch the solar eclipse than at an actual observatory? Butler University’s Holcomb
Observatory and Planetarium will be open for a totally FREE Eclipse Viewing Experience. The experience
features access to over a dozen telescopes, eclipse glasses for all, on-site science experts, and more.
There will also be planetarium shows, music and food trucks. Free parking is available at the Sunset
parking garage and at Hinkle Fieldhouse. For more information, go to https://www.butler.edu/arts-
sciences/holcomb-observatory/eclipse-2024/.
