Preference(s) for the post(s)/ department(s) are required to be submitted by those candidates who
have appeared in Tier-II examination. So before you fill out the form for the year 2024, you must

What is SSC CGL Post Preference Order?
SSC CGL Post Preference Order simply means deciding the post you wish to work on in order of
preference. Candidates of this exam have the option to choose a post of their preference before the
final result of the SSC CGL exam is declared. Then as per the merit-cum-preference basis, the final
allotment of posts will be made by SSC. It is important for candidates to remember that once
selected, the SSC CGL post preference order will not be changed under any circumstances. So, it is
advised that candidates choose their posts very carefully according to their requirements. The
allotment of posts will also depend on a candidate’s health condition, ice if they pass the physical
and medical tests. Below are a few parameters that you need to remember while you fill out your

Detailed SSC CGL Posts Preference Order Details 2024
Candidates preparing for the SSC CGL exam must select their Posts Preference Order as per their
choice before the SSC CCL result gets announced. The post they wish to work needs to be informed
to the commission, failing to do so will result in the disqualification of candidates, so they must
make sure to decide and choose their SSC CGL post preference order. To help out candidates in

1, Assistant Audit Officer
Nature of work-Desk Job, Helping in conducting audits of govt./public sector
organizations, travelling during the inspection. They will have to take decisions at the
section level & report it to their superiors.
Career Path- Will move to positions of Senior Audit Officer then to Deputy Accountant
General and finally Senior Deputy Accountant General.
2, Assistant Accounts Officer
Nature of work- To work in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department under Controller
and Auditor General (CAG) and work in a diverse role, such as assisting the senior
officials and reporting to them on the department's finances., Career Path- An Individual who Is working as an assistant accounts officer will move on
to the posts of Accounts Officer then Senior Accounts Officer and Chief Accounts Officer
3, Assistant Section Officer
Nature of work- Duties of the Assistant section officer involve clerical work like
completing files and making reports, routine noting, drafting, writing a letter, and
putting them up to the higher authorities.
Career Path- The career path of an assistant section officer is Section Officer- Under
Secretary-Joint Director-Director-Joint Secretary
4, Inspector of Income Tax
. Nature of work- Income Tax Inspector has the duty to verify, assess and process income
tax records of individuals and businesses. They also conduct raids whenever required.
Career Path- They get their first promotion after completing 8 years of service and
clearing the dept. exam.

Nature of Work- Most clerk-level work or file work, along with executive work like
augmentation of central excise & Service tax and detection of evasion of taxes etc.

g, Inspector (Preventive Officer)
. Nature of Work- Clerical or file work (for Headquarters posting), Executive work like
prevention of smuggling, assessment of customs duty on goods, arrest, seize, search,
detain etc, there is no fixed duty timings and wearing uniform is mandatory.
Career Path- The individual will be promoted for the first time after 8 year of service
and clearing dept. exam.
Promotion Order:1. Superintendent > Assistant Commissioner > Deputy Commissioner

7, Inspector, (Central Excise) CBIC
._ Nature of work- Desk work of clerical level at headquarters and verification of tax at
ports for field posting.
Career Path- The person working as a Inspector(Examiner) moves on to the post of
Appraiser then Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and finally
Commissioner.
g, Assistant Enforcement Officer
Nature of work- This job requires an individual to go on raids, do several day-long
observations, identify and raid the premises of the suspect. Work mainly involves
gathering intelligence about money laundering or check crimes which are economic in
nature.
Career Path- Individual of this post will move on to being an Enforcement officer (Group
B Gazetted post in 4-6 years)- Assistant Director of Enforcement Directorate- Deputy
Director of Enforcement Directorate- Joint director- Additional Director and Special

Nature of work- The job usually requires to do administrative work: typing, compiling
reports, emailing, calling, updates about various events, maintaining the files etc.
. Career Path- This job role gets promotion after 15-17 years if they don’t clear the dept.
exam and about 8 years if clear dept. exam.
Sub Inspector(CBD)
Nature of work- The work is somewhat the same as state police but with more powers.
The job is a challenging one and candidates will be required to work under pressure.
Sub Inspectors in CBI does not possess revolver/pistol.
Career Path- No fixed promotion period.
Promotion Order: Inspector, After minimum 5 years > Deputy Superintendent, After

Inspector (Narcoties)
Nature of work- Keep a check on the cultivation of opium poppy, Conduct periodic
checks in companies, Monitor any smuggling of banned drugs, Local travel is part of the
job.

Divisional Accountant (CAG)
. Nature of work- Auditing of works carried out by the state government, No or very less
travel, Relaxed job

Sub Inspector (NIA)
Nature of work- NIA leads investigations in terrorism & other national security issues.
‘The job involves lot of travel, collecting evidence from sites, gather intelligence inputs
regarding terrorists etc, During or after terrorist attacks, the work load could increase
many fold which means you have to spend more time with the case.
Career Path- Senior posts are occupied by IPS officers. So rising very high in promotions

sub-Inspector/ Junior Intelligence Officer
Nature of work- Sub inspector will have to patrol the grounds of an organization or
business and ensure there is no unlawful or disorderly behaviour.

Junior Statistical Officer
Nature of work- JSO conducts technical planning of surveys, formulates concepts and
definitions, samples design, collects data drive and the surveys undertaken by NSSO,
social-economic factors, programs, price indexes, and urban surveys.

Nature of work- The Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant will have to do the disposal of
Mails, maintaining Data of the Office, providing input for various Customer Support
queries and rectifying the mistakes in the addresses.

Senior Secretariat Assistant/ Upper Division Clerks
Nature of work- SSA will have to Maintain and arrange official documents and files of
the concerned department, responding to the official mails, drafting RTI (Right to
Information) replies
