CHAPTER 1

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Sounds are all around us, from birds chirping and waves lapping against a coastline to cars
honking in traffic. But sometimes sounds are put together in purposeful ways to create a specific
atmosphere or to express ideas or emotions. Such organized sounds are called music. Music is
a collection of coordinated sound or sounds. Making music is the process of putting sounds and
tones in an order, often combining them to create a unified composition. Music is made of sounds,
vibrations, and silent moments, and it doesn't always have to be pleasant or pretty. It can be used
to convey a whole range of experiences, environments, and emotions. Almost every human
culture has a tradition of making music. Examples of early instruments like flutes and drums have
been found dating back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians used music in religious
ceremonies.Today, rock and pop musicians tour and perform around the world, singing the songs
that made them famous. All of these are examples of music.

The goal of the project is to build a website that mimic the appearances and also some of the basic
functionalities of a popular music-streaming platform Spotify.
The web music player is a music platform designed to play music from across the web by utilizing
a simple chrome browser.
The intent is to designate a machine to host a server and play music for other devices to control
through a web interface.

1.1.1 Motivation

Spotify is music player app. It has 433 million monthly active users.
The app is good but user has so many complained and issue about this app. Like too many Ads,
low sound quality, limits of downloading songs, promotion of podcasts over music and data usage
etc. These are some drawbacks of this platform. So we decide to make same music streaming
platform like Spotify and resolve the user’s problems.

1.1.2 Hypothesis

The demand for music streaming services has grown significantly since the start of the pandemic.
In the second quarter of 2021, worldwide streaming subscriptions grew by a healthy 26.4%.
Music streaming service is almost a requirement in 2024. It’s predicted that, by the end of 2024,
over 20% of internet users will actively listen to songs.
Equally, 90% of worker are more productive when listening to music while working. So this web
application has advantages. We just need do make it as users need.

LITERATURE SURVEY

Spotify is a music streaming service which offers alternative and legal ways for users to
listen to music. Spotify allows for users to build personalized radio stations and playlists,
through both free and paid subscriptions. This music streaming service offers users an
opportunity to socialize through music by allowing them to share music on various social media
sites such as Facebook and Twitter (Spotify, n.d.).

[1]. Spotify’s target market mainly consists of traditional early adopters and opinion leaders
which includes tech-savvy, music enthusiasts, musicians and record labels. 50 percent of users
are ages 18-34, and 24% of Spotify’s users are from households making roughly $100,000.

[2]. Nearly 3 in 5 of Spotify’s web visitors are males (Lipsman, 2011).

[3]. Spotify’s main competitors are Pandora and iTunes Radio. Pandora is considered the
leader in internet radio with more than 76.2 active monthly users.

[4]. Unlike Spotify, Pandora users do not have the option to select individual songs to listen to,
instead Pandora selects song based on the users music channel preferences (Couts, 2013).

[5]. iTunes Radio is significantly less

expensive than Spotify at $25 a year. Like Pandora, iTunes radio does not allow users to
choose which song they will listen to, instead songs are randomized and based on the user’s
preferences (Devine, 2013).

2.1 Existing System

Spotify is not number one in target consumer usage in comparison to its competitors.
Off to a good start. We were correct in our hypothesis here. By and large, Spotify is third in
almost every category where it faced its competitors. iTunes (63%) and Pandora (62%) were
used currently by the majority of our respondents, and Pandora (42%) was the preferred service
based on our data.

Spotify is the preferred music streaming service used by individuals between the ages of
18-34 who fall into the psychographic categories of the organization’s target market.
In our respondents submissions, we found that Spotify (45%) came preferred second to
Pandora (62%) from users in the target public ages 18-34 range, with Pandora coming in at
third. It was interesting to be able to compare this data to the responses from users outside of
this age range. Our team noticed that those older than the target group preferred iTunes (33%)
at a higher rate.

3
2.2 Proposed system

We could have had focus groups to find out an explanation of why other music services
are preferred over Spotify. We could have had a larger sample size and it could have been more
focused toward the target market we were trying to evaluate. We were very limited with the data
collection service we used and so we could have used a different service that would have allowed
us to gain more information.

SYSTEM ANALYSIS & DESIGN

System analysis of musicmania involves the examination and evaluation of various users
music. This process aims to identify opportunities for improvement, streamline processes, and
enhance overall efficiency. Here are key aspects of system analysis

1. Workflow Analysis: Map out and analyze the various workflows and processes within the
music system.

2. Information Systems Review: Evaluate the effectiveness of existing streaming information

systems, and other technology platforms. Assess the integration and interoperability of
different systems.

3. Data Management and Reporting: Examine data management practices, ensuring the
accuracy, security, and accessibility of patient information.

4. Resource Utilization: Analyze the allocation and utilization resources. Identify areas where
resource allocation can be optimized for better efficiency.
