Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students will be able to


LO 1. Develop a deeper understanding of their personality by applying the concept
of SWOC Analysis to self.

LO 2. Apply the theoretical concepts of Introduction while introducing themselves in


an academic or professional setting by being aware of their skill sets and areas of
interest.

LO3. (a) Understand the importance and nuances of public speaking and
presentation to overcome stage phobia by applying their style of delivery of speech
to draw the attention of the listener.
(b) Apply the concept of body language and paralinguistic features in the delivery of
an effective presentation

LO 4. Develop an in-depth understanding of the topic given using creative thinking


with different approaches impromptu and be able to deliver it effectively.

LO 5. Initiate and sustain an effective conversation in unfamiliar surroundings and


with strangers by applying the principles of the art of conversation practically.

UNIT 1: SWOC ANALYSIS 6 Hours

(Written, Spoken, and Role plays)

Activities designed to identify, bring out, and analyze strengths, drawbacks,


significant achievements, difficult situations faced, etc.

Mode of practice: written, spoken and role plays.

UNIT 2: SELF INTRODUCTION - I 7 Hours

a. Importance of Self-Introduction

b. Dos and Don’ts of Self Introduction and presentation of self-introduction by


each student in the class.
c. Recorded Presentation to be submitted by students and feedback to be
provided.

UNIT 3: PRESENTATION SKILLS - I 8 hours

a. Introduction to the art of effective Presentation.

b. Importance of Audience Analysis.

c. Role of Non Verbal Communication.

d. Tips and Techniques for Effective Delivery.

e. Presentation and analysis of current topics of importance by each student

and feedback for further improvement.

Areas: social, economic, political, sports, technology, and other modern trends.

UNIT 4: PUBLIC SPEAKING - I 5 hours

a. Introduction and Importance

b. Types of Public Speaking and Skills needed to speak publicly.

c. Activities like Extempore, JAM Sessions, etc. on topics of general interest to


be carried out

d. Feedback for further improvement.

UNIT 5: ART OF CONVERSATION 4 hours

a. Importance of small talk as a social and professional skill

b. How to initiate small talk

c. Telephone Etiquette including mobile texting

DESCRIPTION OF SWOC

Your strengths should be the positive aspects of yourself that help


you reach your goal, like strong communication skills or a good
work ethic. Your weaknesses should be the negative aspects of
yourself that hinder you from achieving your objectives, like
procrastination or self-doubt. Opportunities are the favorable
situations or circumstances you can take advantage of to reach
your goals, such as courses, workshops, mentors, or scholarships.

Threats are the unfavorable situations or circumstances that you


can face or avoid to achieve your objective, such as deadlines,
exams, distractions, or challenges.
