Established through Republic Act 9163, NSTP law provides a mandatory training program for all
college and university students in the Philippines, consisting of 3 components: the Reserve Officers’
Training Corps (ROTC), a program to provide military training to students to motivate, train, organize and
mobilize for national defense, Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), a program which contributes to the
general welfare and betterment of life to members of the community, and finally, the Literacy Training
Services (LTS), which is a program that aims to train students to teach literacy and numeracy skills to
school children, school youth, and other segments of society in need of their services. The program offers
plenty of services and teachings, and this essay will explain its effect, significance and its potential
influence in students’ lives.
In summary, the NSTP law holds immense significance in students’ lives by providing them with skills
and lessons that fosters personal growth, responsibility, leadership skills, civic engagement, and national
defense preparedness. The long term effect of the skills gained from this program will eventually help
them in real-life situations, dilemmas and problems. They will grow to become responsible adults and
active citizens of this country. And eventually have a positive impact on their future endeavors.
