Importance of Management
I’m writing about the aspects of an individual working for the government and how it can

be beneficial, yet it also has high stakes. In this case, I’ll be interviewing somebody of high

power named Jennifer Brown between February 26th and 29th. Jennifer Brown’s position for the

city of Flagstaff is facilities and fleet section director. Working for the government can be very

controversial, and I’m here to show that some individuals, like Jennifer, work hard to make an

impact on society. The reason being as to why I am interviewing Jennifer is to show part of the

good and have people get to know someone working for their city.

The topic of government jobs in more depth is crucial to speak about because, as

mentioned above, it’s very controversial. Jennifer has had plenty of experience before her current

jobs, such as being a fleet and parts services supervisor at Coconino County Public Works,

communications and systems manager at the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, and Support

Services Manager at the Flagstaff police department. The controversy behind Jennifer’s roles is

that all police officers are bad, and specific jobs aren’t done effectively. While some people tried

overpowering their roles, that’s not all people. Yet, I believe accountability for bad behavior

should be more frequent. The reason being as to why I need this topic to be out there is that

people don’t always get the opportunity to learn more about higher authority jobs and what

Jennifer used to do and does now.

One of the two articles I will be using for this proposal is ‘What is Fleet Management?’,

not only is there text providing questions and answers like what exactly is fleet management,

what a fleet manager does, its benefits, challenges in this line of work, etc. There’s also a video

provided in the article describing lots of information, such as how maintaining service is the

heart of every fleet management while always making the best decisions for everyone. In the

article, a fleet manager’s role is to value and be proficient in driver safety, fleet

tracking/analytics, fuel program management, fleet maintenance, compliance, acquisition,

financing, and remarketing. This article will inform my topic by further answering questions I

will ask of Jennifer in the interview and backing up claims of roles and responsibilities for a fleet

and facilities section director.

The other websites I will be listing as a reference are titled, “Jennifer Brown Director”

and “Public Works Section Director”. The first website refers to Jennifer Brown’s current

position and her previous background. This website will further back up my claims and

reasoning as the public also has access. The City of Flagstaff website mentions Jennifer Brown’s

current job in greater detail by describing administrative duties such as supervisory, strategic

planning, budgeting, council communications, and more. In addition, on the website, examples

of each role are mentioned, along with special requirements.

For Jennifer’s role, it’s hard to find interviews, as it’s a highly tasked job that not many

individuals get. However, I did acquire videos similar to Mrs. Brown’s role that talk about

interview questions, what to look out for, and what fleet/facilities management is. The video,

“Facilities Manager Interview”, is a guided questions video to help prepare candidates. Some of

the questions mentioned are, “Why do you want to work for our company as a facilities

manager?”, “What skills and qualities are needed to be an effective facilities manager?”, and

“Are there any risk factors in your occupation?”. While my questions may not be the same, these

questions were the inspiration.

The second video, “Fleet Management Director” starts by speaking about how their

county was placed number one for their fleet management department a year ago. The director,

Ron Lindsey, speaks about taking initiative with his job and other responsibilities held within the

company. This video wasn’t interview-like, but it showed how I can approach questions with

further research. As for both videos, some of the questions to be used are, “What are your

strengths and weaknesses?”, “What are the current responsibilities you hold in your job

position?”, “Do you feel that the jobs existing today for the city need to be further worked on or

do the jobs seem to execute their line of work proficiently?” and much more.
