Velocity vs Time Graph Questions- 10 February 2022

1. A car starts from rest with an acceleration of 0, 3 m/s2 until it reaches a

speed of 80 km/hr. It maintains this velocity for a period and then
decelerates at 0, 5 m/s2. It finally stops 3 km from the starting point. Draw
a velocity-time graph and use it to calculate the time during which the car
was travelling at its maximum speed.

2. A bus starts from rest and accelerates uniformly over a distance of 500 m,
reaching a speed of 100 km/hr. This speed is maintained until the bus
brakes and stops 15 km from the starting point. If the total time taken is
11 minutes, draw a velocity-time graph and use it to find the magnitude of
the retardation and the distance travelled at full speed.

3. A car accelerates uniformly from rest until it reaches a speed of 100 km/hr.
It then travels at a constant speed until it decelerates and stops 2 km from
the starting point. The entire journey takes two minutes and the magnitude
of the deceleration is twice that of the acceleration. Calculate the
acceleration of the car as well as the distance it travelled while doing 100
km/hr.
4. A motorcycle starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at 1,5 m/s2 until it
reaches 90 km/hr. It remains at this speed for a time until its brakes are
applied. The motorcycle slows at 4 m/s2 and stops 1,6 km from the starting
point. Calculate the time taken for the motorcycle to travel this distance.
