ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Research Title: "Problems Encountered by ASPIN Tunay at Tapat Adoption Shelter in

Tayabas City: A basis for An Intervention Plan"

I. Context and Rationale

Aspin or Asong Pinoy are dogs native to the Philippines. These dogs were formerly
known as Askals or Asong kalye meaning street dogs. They are often victims of
abuse and mistreatment because of how they look and they are valued less
compared to other breeds of dogs. RA 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act states that
animal abuse is punishable by law. The ASPIN Tunay at Tapat Adoption Shelter in
Tayabas City serves as a home for abandoned animals playing a crucial role in
promoting the welfare of animals and responsible pet ownership within the
community of Tayabas City. Despite its mission, the shelter faces problems that
hinder its efficiency and ability to achieve its goals.

This research aims to engage local stakeholders, volunteers, and community

members in identifying and solving problems. It will also empower the community
to take an active role in improving the shelter and contribute to a sense of civic
responsibility and collaboration. Through the research objectives and inquiries, we
will thoroughly investigate these challenges' nature and scope while developing an
intervention plan to address them effectively.

II. Action Research Questions

This study aims to investigate the problems encountered by ASPIN Tunay at Tapat
Adoption Shelter in Tayabas City.

More specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

1. What are the primary challenges encountered by ASPIN Tunay at Tapat

Adoption Shelter in Tayabas City?

2. What interventions can help aid these challenges?

3. What strategies can be used in attaining the identified interventions?

Research Title: “Nutritional Requirements and Alternative Feed Formulation for
Enhancing Tilapia Aquaculture”

I. Context and Rationale

According to DOST, “Tilapia is the second most important cultured species in the
country accounting for 281,111 MT total production in 2021. Philippines' total
production was 263,871 MT in 2020, which makes up 20% of the Philippines'
aquaculture production, with Central Luzon as the leading region with tilapia
production of 136,218 MT.” Tilapia aquaculture has been a source of food and
nutrition for recent years. It has provided economic contributions and job
opportunities. Though tilapia is adaptable to various environments, nutrition is
vital in ensuring quality and growth which also has an impact on its productivity
as well as the producers and the consumers in the aspect of finances and health
goals. Through our research objectives and inquiries, we will thoroughly investigate
these challenges' nature and scope while developing an intervention plan to
address them effectively.

This study aims to explore alternative feed formulations so as to increase the

efficiency in nutrition aside from using traditionally chemically manufactured
feeds. In addition, this research aims to impact the environment’s sustainability as
well as maximizing the abundant resources available.

II. Action Research Questions

This study aims to investigate the Nutritional Requirements and Alternative Feed
Formulation for Enhancing Tilapia Aquaculture.

More specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

1. What are the Nutritional Requirements of Tilapia?

2. What alternative feed formulation can be synthesized from the identified

nutritional requirements?

3. What is the dosage in feeding tilapia according to the derived alternative feed
formulation?
