Philosophy Multicultural Education

I will always strive to have an inclusive environment in my classroom. I want to create an

encouraging and accepting classroom environment that will my students prepare for the future. It
helps to create a greater multicultural awareness in students and helps students with inclusion
help with students who are from many different backgrounds. This would help the students
understand there is a more diverse world than the one in their classroom or at home.
My role as a teacher is to make sure that equality and equity are not the same thing and that they
are both just as important to implement into daily life. I want to offer students from different
backgrounds ways to celebrate their heritage and by having them read text, videos, and class
activities about different cultures.
I would do my own research before meeting them and set up a meeting with both the parents
and student. I would then focus on finding out what the best plan of action would be to help
integrate a healthy new culture that has both the old and new cultures combine. I would also like
to reach out to their past teacher and a counselor so I can get guidance for how to better
acclimate my students.
I want to implement having the students work on a project about different countries and cultures.
I also want to have the students what videos and read books on different cultures and write
papers or do a group project over what they learned.
When working with elementary students I want to use the book called “our class is a family”
which is a children’s book about diversity in the classroom. I would use “stand in my shoes” as a
good children book for social justice. I would use “INCLUDED” as a book about equality and
how it is everywhere you look. For high school I would use the article by “TODAY” called
“Building teens’ respect for diversity: Here’s what to know” this article talks about diversity in
and outside the classroom. I would use the book “The Hate U Give” as a group reading activity
about social justice. I would also use the book “Born A Girl” to show equality.
I want to have bulletin boards with different types of characters that resemble different types of
characters with either disabilities or have no issues. I also want these characters to be all types of
skin colors and ethnicities. I want the theme of my class to be nature and give the students a calm
environment. To achieve this, I will have posters about different cultures.
