Introduction

Literature has changed with the past of the time and the way authors used to write many years
ago is no longer the same way modern authors do now. Even so, the subject of Renaissance
literature has given us an idea of the techniques that were used by some authors in the first
years of literature and which were the main themes of the works of those years.

As a final project, each member of team 2 wrote a sonnet composed of 14 lines (three
quatrains and one couplet.) The 5 sonnets in total are linked in rhyme and talk about the
stages of life (childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and old age.) It is
written in order to put into practice everything that was learned during the semester and to
show our writing skills based on the writing style of the authors that we were seeing in the
last months. It was very helpful to have the opportunity to read all the amazing works that we
were analyzing during this last semester since all of this helped us to do our best in this final
evidence.
When you are a child everything is bright
Enjoying the simple moments life has
Through your little eyes all seems to be fine
Playing with friends and having many laughs.

It is the stage in which you only dream

Because in your mind all things can come true
Being a child is all peaches and cream
Learning all the things the world has for you.

Always with doubts questioning everything

In order to find out how the world works
Going to bed reading happy endings
And at the same time learning some new words.

All the time having a smile on your face

And being excited for a new day.

This is another stage of life's way

Moments with so unexpected changes
It might be difficult but is halfway
With some good and with some bad challenges

Stage which many thoughts flutter in your mind

Thinking about why has time passed so fast?
The time when we were kids is now behind
Now we are just trying to don’t feel sad

But this is not a cause for depression

And new people will soon not be strangers
Just wait for it and leave the obsession
Cause this is about being teenagers
All this phase is just for your enjoyment
Free yourself there is not any judgement

In life there is this beautiful moment

When you’re flying in the pink and blue sky
But what if the things you ever wanted
As petals and rain, are dropped from cloud nine?

Barely breathing in the concrete jungle

They ask for experience they won’t give
Endgame outside your fantasy bubble
Is it time for you to finally live?

Because as fast as you could you moved out

Looked for independence, no strings attached
You find yourself lost and all alone now
When did it go wrong? You ask to the stars

But even after heartbreaks and defeats

You have reasons to love who you are still

In this stage of life you are at your peak

Lost half life being very self-conscious
In the past everything needed a tweak
Look back and see everything was precious

All life has pass through this now wrinkle eyes

Crazy to have money but not damn time
Work equals success, among other lies
To be loved and love to feel at my prime

I followed a path that was made for me

To be born, grow, marry and reproduce…
To broke the rules and always disagree
To end up where it feels you were induce
It is late to amend all past mistakes
It is about time to shake the aches

This is the moment to experiment

where there are not consequences to rue
what the others think is indifferent
nobody else matters but only you

Now is when you finally have a chance

Is this a start or an end? we can't say
Sometimes you feel an energy entrance
that have you awake all night and all day

Memories come to you, you gave your best

You did what was meant to be at that time
Try to sleep a little bit, they suggest
To live what is left, rest have to be prime

In this phase the tomorrow isn’t promised

make sure of every day you have learned.
Epilogue
In the sonnets, the team tried to capture each stage of life. Starting with childhood, with the
verse “Through your little eyes all seems to be fine” we wanted not only to say that the child
has little eyes because he is small in size but because the perspective a child has on life
during this stage is limited, and as a consequence this stage is the most magical and innocent
for almost everyone. Then we have adolescence, one of the most difficult periods of time in
everyone’s life, we wrote “And new people will soon not be strangers” to represent one of the
most incredible experiences of this stage, a lot of our lifetime friends will be from the
adolescence and is also the time when we learn to relate with others and find your people.

For the stage of youth, when everything seems to get calm with your feelings or at least to
learn how to control them but is also the time when life starts to get more difficult and
challenging, we wrote “Barely breathing in the concrete jungle” to describe this feeling of
coming out to the world to try to start this new chapter of being a young adult. For the stage
of life of being an adult we have the lines “Work equals success, among other lies” and “To
end up where it feels you were induce” to talk about how maybe you feel you were rebel and
tried to follow your own path only to realize that at the end society already decided for you
and you need to prioritize other things above your passions to be able to live. And finally, the
elderly, for this one we wrote “In this phase the tomorrow isn’t promised” because even
though this quote could be true in all the stages it is especially true on this one, and it’s living
with the constant thought of knowing your destiny but not knowing when is going to happen.

Justification
Life is a bunch of memories. Sometimes it is hard to explain out loud all the dreams, changes,
hopes, frustration, and regrets that live in our head until our very last breath. For this reason,
we wanted to try to put them into words in order to understand how playing around without a
care was back then, when we felt left out and also homecoming kings and queens, and this
point in our existence where we are about to face the real world by our own as we wait for the
happily ever after to come in the following years.
